James D'Arcy Co-Star With Hayley Atwell

As previously reported, we'll be meeting the original, human version of Jarvis in Marvel's Agent Carter. Though he's not mentioned by name, Variety report that British actor James D'Arcy has signed on to star as Howard Stark's (we still don't know if Dominic Cooper will reprise that role) butler in Marvel's upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger spin-off series. This will almost certainly be Edwin Jarvis, who served as The Avengers faithful butler in the comics, but was replaced by Paul Bettany's AI version for the movies. The site don't elaborate any further though, simply stating that he'll be an ally of Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter. D'Arcy was last seen as the villain in Let’s Be Cops, and he'll also have a role in Warner Bros.' upcoming sci-fi flick, Jupiter Ascending.

Just watched The First Avenger the other day, and I remembered how good Dominic Cooper was as Howard Stark. I assume they'll try making him and John Slattery look alike in this and then in Ant-Man.

@NovaCorpsFan Then why was he on set with Atwell and Evans for the shoot on the 1940's scene?

@PymParticle

Awesome! I've been wondering when we would see the real Jarvis.

I'm not actually familiar with James D'Arcy, but I could definitely see him as Jarvis.

I know from the comics, Jarvis was on the bigger side, so maybe the character will have more of a physical role on Agent Carter?

I know and Joe Johnson is directing a couple episodes too. But Joss Whedon directed the first episode of AOS and it had other talented people behind it, but it still didn't turn out the best. I'm just nervous about it that's all.

Another Marvel show without superheroes.

I would have liked to see Paul Bettany aged like Peggy in TWS. Then it would have made the creation of digital Jarvis more out of admiration.

@scott yeah but they went through growing pains as their first show but the back half of the season was great. I know its no the same showrunners tho and if its half as good as her one shot ill be happy

I'm excited to see a show go back to the WWII Marvel world. I'm holding out hope we see the android Human Torch from the first Captain America movie and maybe Namor.

@PymParticle: Jesus, do you people have no rudimentary knowledge of the comics these movies are based on or did you just not pay any attention during any of Marvel's Phase One movies?

If the rumor is true and Paul Bettany was on set with Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell, he most definitely isn't playing a crotchety butler but is more likely playing THIS CHARACTER (look, they're both coincidentally blonde!)...

That's the original Human Torch. In the comics he was a synthetic man who burst into flames when his skin came into contact with oxygen and was used by Ultron as the body for The Vision.

In AoU, Ultron probably sifts through the data Stark "acquired" from SHIELD and notices that a synthetic man has been locked in storage for the last 70 years and uses it to create a perfect body for himself which JARVIS then hijacks just in the nick of time and decides to stay in said body and ultimately becoming The Vision.

The Bettany/Evans/Atwell scene is probably a flashback establishing the existence of this synteziod body.

If Dominic Cooper reprises his role as Howard Stark, that will make this show that much more interesting to watch. I was going to watch anyways b/c of Hayley. She makes me smile. :o)
