Alaqua Cox will play Echo in Hawkeye, and it's been widely reported that the character is set to receive her own Disney+ spinoff in the not too distant future. There have been some huge rumours about that series recently, including the claim that it would essentially serve as an unofficial Daredevil season 4 with Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio returning as rebooted Variants of Matt Murdock and The Kingpin.
With Clint Barton reportedly set to lose his hearing in Hawkeye, it makes sense for Echo to help him adjust as she's among the Marvel Universe's few deaf superheroes. Now, The Illuminerdi is reporting that Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role as Hawkeye in her spinoff series.
They add that Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop is also expected to appear, and if nothing else, we can now safely say that Clint will survive the events of his TV show (despite passing on that "Hawkeye" mantle). It's certainly interesting to think about what role these two could play in Echo, but them befriending young Maya Lopez is more than likely how they end up factoring into proceedings.
Another interesting possibility here is that Clint doesn't retire; instead, just like in the comic books, the two Hawkeyes could team up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and become a permanent duo.
Seeing as Echo still hasn't been officially announced, we're taking all of this with a pinch of salt for now. However, one thing that has become clear is that Marvel Studios seems to have big plans for Maya and a corner of the MCU that could see its heroes finally start attempting to tackle organised crime.
Makes a nice change from aliens, eh?
