We finally have a solid update on Jeremy Renner, with this one coming directly from the actor's family rather than the tabloids. The Hawkeye star underwent surgery yesterday, and while he's now recovering, Renner remains in critical condition.
For those of you who might have missed the news yesterday, the Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstay was injured after an accident involving his snow plow. Renner is thought to have somehow lost control of the vehicle, with it running over his leg and subsequently causing significant injuries and blood loss.
While we still don't have too many specifics, this statement from the actor's reps does shed a little more light on the extent of those injuries. Unfortunately, it sounds like Renner has a long road to recovery ahead.
"We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, January 2nd 2023," his reps confirm. "He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition."
"Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans."
There have been reports Renner is able to talk, but it's quickly becoming clear we're better off waiting to hear directly from the actor's team for updates.
The two-time Oscar nominee first played Clint Barton/Hawkeye in 2011's Thor, later reprising the role in The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Disney+'s Hawkeye.
We had expected him to reprise the role either in a possible season 2 of Hawkeye or in movies like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Any plans for him have no doubt been put on hold by Marvel Studios, but the most important thing right now is that his recovery continues.
Get well soon, Jeremy!
