LEGION Season 3 Will Be Its Last As FX Pulls The Plug On The Popular Marvel Series

In what may very well be the beginning of the end for Marvel's X-Men TV shows, it's been confirmed today that Legion is ending on FX after just three seasons. Find out more details after the jump...

During the Television Critics Association press tour today FX Networks & FX Productions CEO John Landgraf confirmed that Legion's upcoming third season will be its last.

Apparently, showrunner Noah Hawley always planned for the series to run for only three seasons and the decision to end it now comes as a result of him and the network wanting to close the story the way he always intended. That sounds plausible enough but the timing here is definitely suspect.

Bear in mind that Disney will own FX in a matter of months and the rights to characters from the world of the X-Men will return to Marvel Studios. While Legion and The Gifted are sort of set in their own world, there's no way Kevin Feige - or Disney - will want these random characters running around doing their own thing and confusing moviegoers.

With that in mind, you have to believe that The Gifted is next for the chopping block and with the Marvel TV shows ending on Netflix, we could see Marvel Television slowly gotten rid of as Marvel Studios takes charge of these small screen stories.

As for Legion, it's a shame to see it go but at least the series is getting a proper ending!

This isn't really that surprising to me. With the general consensus being that season 2 missed the mark, and the fact that the Disney-Fox merger will be finished by summer, it makes sense for Hawley to end the show how he wants and to go out in style rather than setting up an additional season and dragging stuff out into uncertainty.

@KWilly -

That was the most boring X-show.. It amazes me considering that it is full of interesting mutants.

That sucks, it was a different take on a anti-superhero show that was still awesome with a lot of twists and turns. Unpredictable always.

Gonna miss it.

Damn shame. At least Hawley gets the chance to conclude his story.

Looks like Disney/Marvel is consolidating their shit... which isn't surprising at this point.

@Kman - this is purely a fox thing according to the report... nothing to do with marvel's decision making.
