Jonathan Majors' surprise appearance in the Loki finale as He Who Remains (a.k.a. Kang the Conqueror) blew the minds of comic book fans, but it turns out that wasn't actually the actor's MCU debut.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, director Kate Herron revealed that Majors actually provided the voices of all three Time-Keepers for their brief appearance in the show's fourth episode. "Something that was really fun for me was we hadn't, for example, cast the voice of the Time Keepers yet, because you know Wizard of Oz was an obvious reference of ours," she explained.
"I was like, 'Oh, let's get Jonathan to do it, because he's an amazing character actor,'" the filmmaker adds. "We sent him the art of all the characters and it was really fun [because] he was sending us all of these different voices he could do for each character, which was great."
The site was able to also catch up with Majors to get some thoughts on his arrival in this shared world, and it sounds like the role means a lot to him. "It was one of those moments in one's life, depending on one's occupation, where you go, 'Ah, this is it. This is it,'" the actor recalled. "'All the sh*t you talked about wanting to do, [now] there's a door in front of you. Be brave, walk through the door, and leave it on the field.' That was my mentality."
As for whether what we saw from him as He Who Remains (basically a version of Immortus) will have an impact on his performance as Kang in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. "You take it a day at a time. That's all I would say about that. You take it a day at a time and clean your plate and see what tomorrow brings. See what the next story is, and then take it from there."
Since Kang was revealed in the season finale of Loki, fans have been going back to dissect previous episodes, paying particular attention to the Time-Keepers' interaction with the God of Mischief and Sylvie.
Some fans are convinced that after the one Time-Keeper was beheaded, they could hear a whisper that sounds like "See you soon" after the other robots finished laughing. Seeing as it was Kang on the other end of them, that makes a lot of sense, so we'll now be going back to watch that scene again...
