MOON KNIGHT: May Calamawy Reflects On Sharing The Screen With Oscar Isaac As Steven Grant And Marc Spector

Talking during today's press conference for Moon Knight, May Calamawy recalls her unique experience starring alongside Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant and Marc Spector, two very different characters.

Marvel Studios held the global press conference for Moon Knight earlier today, with Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Ethan Hawke (Arthur Harrow), May Calamawy (Layla El-Faouly), director Mohamed Diab, directors Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, and executive producer Grant Curtis.

One of the most exciting things about the Disney+ series is the fact that Isaac will be taking a deep dive into the title hero's disassociation identity disorder, which means means he gets to play both Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two disparate personalities (we can only hope Jake Lockley shows up down the line) vying for control of the same body.

The mind boggles at what it must have been like for the actor's co-stars to share the screen with him in Moon Knight, and we submitted a question asking Isaac and Calamawy about how that affected their dynamic on set. After all, Marc and Steven couldn't be any more different, and the same applies to the way each of them interacts with May in the episodes of the show we've seen.

Below, May describes her experience in details before Isaac and Hawke chime in to recall a "dance-off" we can only hope sees the light of day on Disney+ somewhere down the line!

How did Oscar playing both Marc and Steven affect your dynamic on set, particularly given how different their relationship with Layla is?

May: Oscar did such a good job. I watched Oscar a lot on this project. I didn't tell you, but you were a big acting teacher for me [Laughs]. I don't want to compliment him now, but he really understands it at such a cellular level and when he would be each character, it was really two separate people and I could feel the energy. I wouldn't even have to ask who he was. With Marc, I would find myself more guarded around and with Steven, I would feel more nurturing. There was no intellect or thought process involved in it. It was just visceral and so fun to work with [him] and experience that.

Oscar: But you did dance with Marc a little bit. When he was in the suit, remember we had a little dance-off? All three of us in the chamber in the superhero suit.

May: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true.

Ethan: It's hard to resist you when you have the superhero suit on [Laughs].

May: We had fun.

Oscar: We did

Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.

I'm hyped for this and in desperate need of vigilntism on the screen. Please be great. Even if it's not Loki or Wanda but still close, I'll be satisfied. Those shows rocked.

I just hope it doesn't suffer from TV quality syndrome of filler episodes and some TV acting. The episode in Hawkeye where Yelena tried to rescue another widow is an example. The actress portraying the former widow had some terrible ABC family acting compared to Florence Pugh.

I wanna see that BTS of Oscar Isaac dancing while wearing the Moon Knight suit.

Makes total sense how she would be switching through with two distinct characters being played by the same performer.
