Marvel Studios' latest Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel, is set to premiere on the streamer next month, and USA Today has now shared a new featurette spotlighting previously unseen footage of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) in action along with cast and creative team interviews.

The sneak peek also opens with a nice moment as Vellani is told that she's landed the lead role over Zoom.

What we've seen from the show so far seems to have been mostly well-received, but fans of the character were disappointed by the decision to significantly alter Khan's "embiggening" powers for her live-action bow. Both Kevin Feige and co-creator Sana Amanat have addressed the backlash in recent interviews, but we're not sure their explanations were considered to be entirely satisfactory.

Khan will debut in Ms. Marvel before going on to join fellow cosmically-powered heroes Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) on the big screen in The Marvels next year.

Check out the video below along with an officially-released version of SFX Magazine's latest cover.

"Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City," reads the updated synopsis. "An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?"

Ms. Marvel also stars Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.

A bit skeptical about this one, but the costume is flawless, can't deny that.

All I saw on that featurette cover was The Orville: New Horizons.

This featurette really makes me realize that they didn't change her powers because they looked like Mr. Fantastic, but wanted to make her look more like Captain Marvel.

A Superman fan wants flight, a Thor fan wants Mjolnir, so a Captain Marvel fan (which they keep hammering Kamala is on in this featerette) wants light, so it only works better for a coming of age story to have Kamala follow in the footsteps of her hero.

Personal opinion.. I've never been crazy about Ms. Marvel (this one) and the "embiggening" always seemed a little silly. I like this take on her powers better. She's obviously the MCU's answer to Quasar and, by extension, to Green Lantern. Just like Capt. Marvel is the MCU's Silver Surfer.

Could be good..

@knomad - Not sure where you're getting Captain Marvel is the MCU's Silver Surfer? I've honestly not thought of her in relation to Silver Surfer a single time.

@knomad - I really hope not we're not getting Quasar. Both Wendell Vaughn and Phyla-Vell are pretty cool characters that I think Marvel is not gonna leave unattended

I might be losing faith with Marvel Disney+ series in general but this video was heartwarming and I’m now rooting for this show.

I’ve definitely lost faith in Disney+, but this show will find an audience. My young nieces, for example, might enjoy it. Really wish Disney would lean harder into Disney+ from a content and production quality standpoint. Let’s put some big names on the streamer… Wolverine, perhaps?

@Jackraow21 - a Wolverine show would be pretty cool. Think it would be fun to see him interact with Alpha Flight, fight with the Hulk and go to Madripoor.

And above all, I wanna see what happened to him during the Blip? Got he dusted? And if, so would his body regenerate and maybe get dusted again and again and again for five years?

@bkmeijer1 - Ooh, an Alpha Flight series, or even mini, would be very nice...!

The power bracelet just feels a little too much like a mcguffin... I'm sure it will have some convenient weakness in the plot. Muslim women are extremely oppressed in the Middle East, and it would've been more symbolic and powerful if her powers came from within herself and not empowered by an object a la a "wishing stone". Why can't she just be a strong woman? Why did she need a special bracelet to be strong?

The more I see the more I'm easing off the fence and accepting the power change. I was gonna watch regardless, but I'm more excited now. Really wanna know what the stinger is to that "Do you know what you are?" question. Are they're just making her Kree descended or what?
