Variety is reporting that Golden Globe-nominee Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four; Sin City) has been tapped to star in a new action/thriller titled Trigger Warning, which is being described as a potential new franchise for the streaming giant.
The film will see Alba portray a traumatized war veteran who inherits her grandfather's bar and is faced with a moral dilemma after discovering the truth behind his untimely death. Further details are currently unavailable.
Mouly Surya (Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts; What They Don't Talk About When They Talk About Love) is directing with a screenplay from Academy Award-nominee Josh Olson (A History of Violence; Batman: Gotham Knight) and John Brancato (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines; Terminator Salvation).
Basil Iwanyk (Sicario; John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum) and Erica Lee (Sicario; John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum) are producing while Alba will serve as an executive producer.
With Trigger Warning, Netflix hopes to recreate the global success of Mark Wahlberg's Spenser Confidential and Chris Hemsworth's Extraction, which recently received the go-ahead for a sequel that has Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame; Avengers: Infinity War) penning the script.
No word yet on when it may begin production, but if it rolls cameras before the end of the year, then it seems plausible it may be ready for a 2021 release.
