Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi Rumored To Return With Luke Skywalker As Its Lead Character

A new rumor claims that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is returning to Disney+, this time with Luke Skywalker in a leading role. Will Mark Hamill return as the iconic Jedi Master, though?

Disney's handling of Luke Skywalker has received largely negative reviews from fans. He didn't show up until the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where the iconic hero had a silent cameo.

Later, The Last Jedi revealed why the disillusioned Jedi Master had walked away from his friends and the fight with the First Order. That didn't go down well, though his sacrifice to save the Resistance somewhat made up for it. A Force Ghost cameo in The Rise of Skywalker followed, but no one wanted to see Luke die, and his role in the Skywalker Saga's final chapters was widely deemed a disappointment.

The Mandalorian redeemed the character by showing him at the height of his Jedi powers, while The Book of Boba Fett revealed more about his Jedi Academy's early years.

Unfortunately, Luke hasn't been seen since, but that could be about to change. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, leaker @FivesWalker has revealed that Luke Skywalker is set to return in the next season of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. Presumably, it will be as one of the show's leads, similar to Ahsoka Tano in previous episodes.

The animated anthology series started in 2022 with Tales of the Jedi, and was followed by Tales of the Empire and Tales of the Underworld. While a new Tales series hasn't been officially announced, putting the spotlight on Luke would generate plenty of excitement among Star Wars fans.

With the last two series being released on May 4, it's possible an announcement could be imminent (particularly with Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord wrapping up soon).

As for this leaker, they have a credible track record, having previously revealed accurate Shadow Lord plot details in advance and a few movie scoops that were later confirmed by the Hollywood trades.

The big question is whether Mark Hamill will return to voice Luke Skywalker. Last June, he seemingly closed the door on the possibility of playing the character again.

"I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars 'the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'" Hamill said. "We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters."

Hamill has praised Disney's decision to appoint Dave Filoni as Lucasfilm's new co-President, and given his creative involvement in the Tales franchise, there's every chance he's convinced the actor to return for the animated series.

Keep checking back here for updates on Luke Skywalker's Star Wars future as we have them.

Heck of a way to spin the story with the headline , Josh…

The rumor is just that Luke is gonna appear in the next Tales series but it’s you who thinks it’s gonna be as a lead when it could be as a supporting character.

Anyway , the Tales stories have been fun so far (some more then others as anthologies tend to go) so wouldn’t mind seeing Luke in that if Lucasfilm isn’t gonna recast the character in live action and I doubt we get an entire story with de-aged Luke as of now since it would be too expensive….

Hell if that appearance is successful then I wouldn’t mind seeing an animated series of Luke , Leia & Han’s adventures post ROTJ!!.

@TheVisionary25 - This is what I'm talking about. I want the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, Clone Wars Style. There's thirty years of stories to be told, and plenty of source material (comics, novels, video games) to mine for storylines. Wouldn't even have to write anything original, just adapt canon (and non-canon) stories from other media.

@Clintthahamster - agreed

Seems like leaving money on the table tbh.

@TheVisionary25 - I’m watching this now myself. I never fully got into Rebels or The Bad Batch but Maul has been pretty good.

@WruceBayne - I haven’t watched Bad Batch in its entirety so need to do that but liked Rebels quite a bit.

The sequel trilogy made everything Luke accomplished completely meaningless and destroyed the franchise beyond repair. It should have focused on the legacy of Han, Luke, and Leia and all their children carrying the franchise into the future but they seemed determined to “Kill the past” and turn a traditionally boy focused franchise into a girl’s one. Honestly, they’d need a lot of major retcons (because they’d never redo the sequels - Disney always doubles down on failures) to even mildly repair all the damage

@Bucky74 - Heard the same bullshit about the prequels for half my life. Now everyone cheers whenever an element of them gets respect. Heck, Maul got his own show now! Star Wars tends to age like wine. Every Star Wars movie has been through something like this, even Empire. Hate is loud but always survived by enthusiasm.
The sequels lacked focus and a consistent vision. I kinda get it though, because SW fans can never make up their minds what they want. They hated the prequels for 15 years with burning passion. So Abrams gave them essentially the originals again. Then they hated that too and screamed for originality. So Johnson decided to go drastic steps to free the franchise from itself. And they hated that. So LucasFilm said "Screw it" and just gave the self-proclaimed "backlash" everything they wanted... and the result was Rise of Skywalker. A complete mess. Should they have had more artistic integrity and stuck to their blasters instead of selling out to the angry Sith Lords of Internet? Sure. But I'm still more mad at the haters.

The sequels are a mess now but nothing was "destroyed". I like many of the idea they were going for. The Empire was defeated, but the fascistic sentiments still lingered. The ghost of the Emperor still literally haunted the galaxy and it took the entire galaxy getting on the same page to finally wipe him out. Luke's story about failure, disillusionment and healing may not have been the uber cool power fantasy that some people may have wanted but it was meaningful and DID make sense. The Jedi Way has [frick]ed up the galaxy and lead to the Jedi's downfall twice in the exact same way. If I were Luke I would have also concluded that it's just not working. I would have also done a lot of things differently, but there is a lot to build on.

And every one who is bitching and crying about Star Wars having more than one female character now who never end up in a metal bikini, may just not be mature enough for this franchise anyway. So who cares about their itty bitty feelings?

Bucky74 - 4/24/2026, 10:16 AM
@Drace24 - They can have as many female characters as they want, it will always be a boys centric IP and trying to change that is like trying to market Barbie to little boys. You can, but the returns will dwindle. Also, Ray was absolutely a Mary Sue non character. Good at everything and zero growth. Had they made Luke’s daughter or granddaughter the lead and given her an actual character arc (and maybe a solid heroic male romantic interest) fans would have been more accepting.

The prequels had their problems but they didn’t crap on the history, lore, and original trilogy heroes and even when they came out they had many moments fans loved. They are masterpieces compared to that crap show of a sequel trilogy that showed contempt for our classic heroes. If you actually enjoyed them then good on you. You’re in the vast minority and the franchise has been damaged beyond repair. And don’t get me started on bringing tPalpatine back (somehow… he returned) completely destroyed Vader’s sacrifice and is beyond lazy filmmaking. We have a SW film coming out in a month. Lets see how badly the franchise has fallen

I seriously think the damage may be too far done for Star Wars at least maybe in live action. We'll see if Mando and Starfigher change that, but I think everyone from the general audience to hard core fans got completely wiped from the sequel trilogy. I know the prequels received basically the same level of hate when they dropped, but I don't know...This feels different and worse. You didn't just have a couple of shitty movies, it was project after project being worse than the last, with only 1 or 2 exceptions.

Bucky74 - 4/24/2026, 10:23 AM
@JabbaTheSus - The prequels at least had some great moments that Maul battle to duel if the fates is epic, and the Obi Wan/Anikin battle, etc) and don’t show utter contempt for the originals like the sequels did. They basically made what Luke, Han, and Leia did meaningless and had them fail completely (even at parenting). I laugh when they try and say “Rise Of Skywalkergave the fans what they wanted and they weren’t happy.” No it didn’t. No one wanted to see Palpatine back. They eliminated Vader’s sacrifice and the heroes victory completely
JabbaTheSus
JabbaTheSus - 4/24/2026, 11:16 AM
@Bucky74 - Completely agreed. The prequels still hold up and have amazing moments, character design and it still feels like the same world. The sequels just did whatever the hell they wanted, with no plan for an over arching story for all 3 films. I honestly can't think of one moment in all 3 sequels that makes me as giddy or pumped as numerous scenes in the prequels had.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 4/24/2026, 11:25 AM
@JabbaTheSus - Same. Those films, for all their flaws, had moments and quotable lines that were awesome from the start. What’s sad is that George gave them loose outlines of a great sequel trilogy and they basically threw it in the dumpster and went into a billion dollar franchise trilogy with zero roadmap. It’s crazy when you think about it.

There’s so much more they could’ve done with the beloved character of Luke Skywalker. Animation, books, tv appearances, movies, park attractions would have all been easy money for Disney.

I’ll never understand why their first move was to alienate their core fanbase that grew up with Luke, Han and Leia, especially since those fans are all grown up now and have money!

It made zero sense to trash all the legacy characters as failures just to try and recreate the Rebels v Empire dichotomy again. Something we’ve already seen done much better. If they had treated them with dignity and respect and shown a passing of the torch to a new generation, preferably their offspring, they would still be making billions from one of the greatest IP’s in cinema history because they would not have turned longtime fans like myself off.

Now they’re trying to mine us middle agers by throwing us a bone with having legacy characters at the park, and Tales of the Jedi. Never thought it was possible for me to lose interest in Star Wars, I even incorporated it into my wedding ceremony 16 years ago.

@Huskers - sadly it’s been like that for a moment; rebels vs empire dichotomy for a lot of Star Wars lore: Old Republic, the Prequels, The Original films, the Sequels; just seems like a one trick pony.

It's about time. What were they thinking not bringing Luke Skywalker into the animated world all these years? Mark Hamill's a voice actor ffs.
