IRON MAN Director Jon Favreau Reveals How That Movie Unexpectedly Set The Stage For THE MANDALORIAN

Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Dave Filoni (Ahsoka) have revealed how a chance meeting back in 2008 would unexpectedly lay the groundwork for The Mandalorian to become a reality years later. Check it out...

The Mandalorian has been a huge hit for Lucasfilm during a time when they desperately need to win over fickle Star Wars fans. The response to the sequel trilogy was mixed at best, but everyone can agree that the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu are a great example of what makes the franchise so great.

In charge of the "Mando-Verse" are Iron Man director Jon Favreau and The Clone Wars boss Dave Filoni. However, what you may not know is that the Armored Avenger played a key role in why The Mandalorian became a reality.

During a recent interview with Empire (via CBR), Favreau and Filoni revealed that they first met when the former was visiting the Skywalker Ranch to do Iron Man's sound mix. Filoni was in the process of helping launch The Clone Wars and the conversation that followed would prove key for this Galaxy's future.

Favreau recalls, "I casually said, 'Hey, if you ever need somebody to do a voice...' And then he called me up [to voice] Pre Vizsla [a Mandalorian warrior]."

Years later, Favreau would pitch The Mandalorian to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and it was then the idea of pairing him up with old friend Filoni came up.

"I felt instinctively when I saw Iron Man that Jon had a great handle on how Star Wars actually worked," Filoni explains. "It was a fun adventure - there were comedic elements, but there was also a lot of heart. That's something that's throughout Jon's work, this feeling of heart."

Favreau's time in the MCU has continued to influence his work on the Star Wars franchise as, after playing Happy Hogan in the Spider-Man movies, the filmmaker enlisted director Jon Watts to take charge of Skeleton Crew

The Mandalorian is set to return to Disney+ for its third season on March 1.

I'll take Favreau as LucasFilm CEO.

@GreedoSarducci - yeah, I think between Favreau, Gunn, Filoni and Feige you have the modern day Nerd Mt. Rushmore!

They could pretty much change the game for us if the studios would get out of the way!

@xfan320 - remember when Whedon was in the mix? Crazy how quickly things can change.

Favreau set the stage for the entire MCU too. Feige has been aping the tone Favreau created ever since.

Lol, this was in The Chef show like 4 years ago, in the episode at the Skywalker Ranch, and Jon Favreau basically almost slips on him returning as a Mandalorian (i think even before the title of the show was public)

Iger simply needs to replace Kathleen Kennedy with Favreau and Filoni as the producers and creating minds behind the entire Star Wars Universe.

Let them do what they want and right the ship. If that means visiting the World beyond Worlds from Rebels in the Ahsoka show, and resetting the timeline to erase the sequel trilogy then I am fine with that.

Can they still have Kylo Ren/Ben and Rey? Yes they can but Rey doesn't have to be "wonder Rey" and can actually be developed. Ben and Rey can actually be cousins or become friends. Ben could still be Luke's student and a burgeoning Jedi master and he finds Rey and senses her abilities and brings her into the new Jedi order, but together the two of them help form the Grey Jedi who are a mix of the dark and the light side, which is basically what Luke was becoming in Return of the Jedi.

Have that be a sequel trilogy but then retell the entire Thrawn trilogy using deep fakes and de-aging to bring back Han, Luke and Leia. Tell the stories the right way. Step back, take their time and basically reboot what needs rebooting.

So, I read a recent article here that said that Kevin was keen to jump up to the Chairman of Disney's position, which I could totally see. I could also see Iger grooming him (not in an Ezra way - get your minds out of the gutter!) for eventual CEO, as Feige's been by far the most successful thing to ever happen to Disney, and I'm all for it. He deserves it.

SO, the question remains, if any of this pans out, who would fill his shoes? And also, considering that the majority of the fans would like to see Kennedy step down (at least for Star Wars), who should take those reigns? My initial reaction is to let Kevin get bumped up to Chairman (even though I don't want him to step too far away from the MCU), let Favreau take control of the MCU, and Filioni SW.

Now if we want both Jon and Dave in charge of SW the my next pick for head honcho at Marvel would be Nate Moore. Either way, they sure as hell better not lose Sarah Finn. For all everyone's gripes and complaints, Marvel and SW DO have a LOT of really talented people working there who really GET IT in the same way that we do. As long as they can keep keep the Execs at bay (which they'd done pretty well until "He Whose Name We Shall Not Speak *cough* *Chapek* *cough*), then we should be in good shape. I mean it's not that hard folks: let the comics/SW geeks who know that material and are actually talented at producing it handle it. Don't worry, the money will roll in.

Marvel learned that lesson early on and stuck to it until Darth Chapek took control of the Empire. Now Jedi Master Iger has returned to right the ship. Let's hope that Gunn and Safran can do the same.
