Every Movie You Need To See In The Rest Of 2018 (And What You Need To Know About Them)

There are still four months' worth of movies set to be released this year so we're now breaking down the ones you guys will need to see as well as telling you everything you need to know about them...

It's been an amazing year for movies with the likes of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Mission: Impossible - Fallout all exceeding expectations. However, while the fall is nearly upon us, 2018 isn't over yet and there are still plenty of exciting releases on their way to theaters. We're not just talking about superhero movies either as there are a lot of different genres set to receive the spotlight.

What you'll find here then is a breakdown of the most must-see movies coming over the next four months. From The Nun to Bumblebee, you won't just find the trailers for them but also everything you need to know about these films and our take on why they're worth watching (or in some cases, possibly worth missing). So, to check out this breakdown, simply click on the "View List" button below.

The Nun

Release Date: September 7th

Directed By: Corin Hardy

Starring: Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, Bonnie Aarons

What You Need To Know: It may not have James Wan at the helm but The Nun is part of The Conjuring Universe (yes, that's a thing now) and with a filmmaker like Hardy at the helm, you can guarantee that this movie will be a winner with horror fans. If you haven't seen The Hallow, I suggest tracking it down.

The Predator

Release Date: September 14th

Directed By: Shane Black

Starring: Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen

What You Need To Know: Shane Black has a strong track record but it's still hard to escape the feeling this movie is either going to be fantastic...or terrible! We know there will be a lot of humour and the action looks solid but whether or not that will be enough to save this stale franchise is hard to say.

Venom

Release Date: October 5th

Directed By: Ruben Fleischer

Starring: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson

What
You Need To Know: Is this going to be a disaster of Fantastic Four-scale proportions? Maybe. However, it does look pretty cool and there's a chance it could exceed expectations even if Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen. The action certainly looks like it will be good and Hardy is a great actor so that could be enough to elevate this movie beyond total mediocrity. That may be a stretch but we'll see...

First Man

Release Date: October 12th

Directed By: Damien Chazelle

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Jason Clarke, Claire Foy, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Ciaran Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas

What You Need To Know: The director of La La Land is back with another potential Oscar winner and while the story of Niel Armstrong may be well-known to many, the filmmaker will no doubt find a way to make that truly compelling, especially with the
A-List cast we'll get to see in front of the camera.

Bad Times at the El Royale

Release Date: October 12th

Directed By: Drew Goddard

Starring: Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman, Russell Crowe

What You Need To Know: Drew Goddard's next movie will be X-Force but if you want a reminder of his
action abilities, it appears as if Bad Times at the El Royale will be a must-watch. It's also going to be fun seeing a different side of Chris Hemsworth while he's away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Release Date: October 12th

Directed By: Ari Sandel

Starring: Madison Iseman, Ben O'Brien, Caleel Harris, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Chris Parnell, Ken Jeong

What You Need To Know: The first Ghostbusters movie wasn't exactly a masterpiece but it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this sequel is much beyond a shameless cash grab and it certainly doesn't appear to have the same level of charm as its predecessor based on what we've seen so far.

Halloween

Release Date: October 19th

Directed By: David Gordon Green

Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner, Nick Castle, James Jude Courtney

What You Need To Know: A sequel rather than a reboot, there's understandably a lot of excitement surrounding this movie even if it is going to put the spotlight on a horror character who has arguably had his time and outstayed his welcome (you can thank all of the unnecessary sequels for that).

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Release Date: November 2nd

Directed By: Lasse Hallström, Joe Johnston

Starring: Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Foy, Eugenio Derbez, Matthew Macfadyen, Richard E. Grant, Misty Copeland, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman

What You Need To Know: While we should probably be excited about this one given the talent involved, it sadly looks terrible. There's a chance it could find an audience but it feels like it's going to be a disaster on the same scale as A Wrinkle in Time which makes sense as it looks just as bad as that.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Release Date: November 2nd

Directed By: Bryan Singer

Starring: Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech, Mike Myers

What You Need To Know: Bryan Singer may have been replaced as director during production (which possibly isn't the worst thing in the world after X-Men: Apocalypse) but the signs are still pointing to Bohemian Rhapsody being a solid biopic and Rami Malek is a superb choice to play Freddie Mercury.

The Grinch

Release Date: November 9th

Directed By: Yarrow Cheney, Scott Mosier

Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch

What You Need To Know: The first trailer for The Grinch was absolutely fantastic and this one promises to be good fun for kids and adults alike. Benedict Cumberbatch taking on the title role was a smart move and while we don't know much about what to expect, I have a good feeling about this one.

The Girl in the Spider's Web

Release Date: November 9th

Directed By: Fede Alvarez

Starring: Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant

What
You Need To Know: This is neither a sequel nor a reboot; instead, it's...both? That aside, this follow-up/non-follow-up to David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo looks like it could be a lot of fun and with Fede Alvarez at the helm, the material is arguably in pretty safe hands with the director.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Release Date: November 16th

Directed By: David Yates

Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Carmen Ejogo, Kevin Guthrie, Poppy Corby-
Tuech

What You Need To Know: The controversy surrounding Johnny Depp's involvement aside, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will continue telling the story which began in the first instalment, hopefully addressing a lot of mysteries while also reintroducing us to new versions of familiar faces.

Ralph Breaks The Internet

Release Date: November 21st

Directed By: Rich Moore

Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Taraji P. Henson, Gal Gadot, Alan Tudyk

What You Need To Know: Wreck-it Ralph was great but this sequel looks even better and with the inclusion of characters from the Marvel, Disney, and Star Wars Universes as well as those from video games, you just know everyone will find something to love here. It generally just looks like good fun.

Creed II

Release Date: November 21st

Directed By: Steven Caple Jr.

Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Dolph Lundgren, Florian Munteanu, Phylicia Rashad, Andre Ward, Wood Harris, Brigitte Nielsen

What You Need To Know: Ryan Coogler not being at the helm is obviously disappointing but he was busy working on Black Panther to be fair! Despite that, everything we've seen from this sequel looks great and with the original cast returning alongside some fan-favourites, we have no reason to worry.

Robin Hood

Release Date: November 21st

Directed By: Otto Bathurst

Starring: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, Jamie Dornan, Tim Minchin, Paul Anderson

What You Need To Know: The cast is undeniably fantastic but this still has all the ingredients to be a generic action movie which reimagines a classic property in a grim and gritty way which just leaves moviegoers rolling their eyes. It's possible it could surprise us all but I honestly wouldn't bank on that.

Mortal Engines

Release Date: December 14th

Directed By: Christian Rivers

Starring: Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Hugo Weaving, Jihae, Leila George, Ronan Raftery, Stephen Lang

What You Need To Know: Not a huge amount has been revealed about this one and while Peter Jackson's name is all over it, he's not at the helm so we have no guarantee that it will actually be on the same level as the movies he's directed. Regardless, it's visually breathtaking and could be a surprise hit.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

Release Date: December 14th

Directed By: Bob Persichetti

Starring: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Lily Tomlin

What You Need To Know: Something tells me this will be...spectacular! The animation style is really out of this world and while some liberties with the source material have been taken, there are enough characters and nods to the comics here to ensure that any Spider-Man fan will walk away happy.

Mary Poppins Returns

Release Date: December 19th

Directed By: Rob Marshall

Starring: Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury

What You Need To Know: This sequel to the beloved Disney classic boasts a capable director and an amazing cast and nostalgia alone should be enough to drive moviegoers to the
theater to check this one out. If you're not a fan of the original, though, I'm not sure how much it will be worth your time.

Aquaman

Release Date: December 21st

Directed By: James Wan

Starring: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman

What You Need To Know: The hope is that Aquaman will be the movie to put the DC Extended Universe on the right path and while some fans were critical of the CGI in the first trailer, it certainly appears as if James Wan has delivered a fantasy epic which finally does Arthur Curry justice on screen.

Alita: Battle Angel

Release Date: December 21st

Directed By: Robert Rodriguez

Starring: Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley,
Keean Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez

What You Need To Know: As weird as this one looks in some respects and as spotty as Robert Rodriguez's track record can be, Alita looks like it has the potential to make fans of the property happy and that might ultimately be enough. However, the action looks awesome so maybe it will surprise us!

Bumblebee

Release Date: December 21st

Directed By: Travis Knight

Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Rachel Crow, Pamela Adlon

What You Need To Know: Moviegoers clearly soured on the Transformers franchise after The Last Knight so Travis Knight will have to do a lot to win them back. Thankfully, it looks like Bumblebee will do just that by dialling back the stakes and a more character driven movie rather than just explosions.

Holmes and Watson

Release Date: December 21st

Directed By: Etan Cohen

Starring: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Lauren Lapkus, Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Laurie, Bella Ramsey, Scarlet Grace

What You Need To Know: We haven't even seen a trailer for this one yet and websites were hit with copyright claims for sharing a poster we quickly learned was leaked. Regardless, the pairing of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly promises to be as much fun as normal and it has the potential to be a riot.

I don't NEED to see a majority of these. In fact, many of them, judging by the trailers, look abysmal.

I want Venom to succeed cinematically. I just don't think Sony is the right studio for the job.

If at first you don't succeed...give it up and let Marvel Studios handle it.
