The first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance was released earlier today and offered fans a first look at the threequel. For those of you who enjoyed Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, this movie certainly promises to be...more of the same.
However, it seems the plan is to up the ante and have Eddie Brock facing threats from Earth and Klyntar; that's evident from a newly released synopsis.
"In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance."
You'll notice that this is now being billed as the "final film in the trilogy," not necessarily Hardy's last Venom movie, period. Still, the second half sounds quite definitive and we're undeniably curious about what "devastating decision" Eddie and his alien suit will be forced to make.
The bigger news comes from an official cast list. That includes Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, Stephen Graham, and...Rhys Ifans.
Yes, The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home star will appear in Venom: The Last Dance, but is he playing Dr. Curt Connors, a.k.a. The Lizard?
We don't think so. As you can see in the screenshot below, the Welsh actor has seemingly been cast as a hippie who gives Eddie a ride. Interestingly, there looks to be a young child sitting next to the Lethal Protector which may play into rumours that he'll be travelling with a young Peter Parker. We're confident in saying it's just a random kid, though!
Regardless, this is an odd move to cast Ifans as a random character after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home (a movie Hardy also starred in courtesy of a post-credits scene), so perhaps this is a cured Connors who has moved on from being The Lizard? Or it's just Sony doing Sony things and making fans think they'll get some Multiversal cameos.
Oh, and Ifans' character has two arms!
The movie is directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she wrote, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker.
Venom: The Last Dance will be released in theaters on October 25.
