Deadline reports that Jordan Vogt-Roberts' (Kong: Skull Island) Metal Gear Solid movie is finally gaining some momentum with the casting of Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as Solid Snake. Based on the hit video game series created by Hideo Kojima, Roberts will be working off a screenplay by Skull Island scribe Derek Connolly (Jurassic World: Dominion).
The franchise was launched in 1987, and later becoming a huge part of the PlayStation brand. Known for its cinematic qualities, fans have long hoped the series might find its way to the big screen.
In the 1998 game released on the PlayStation 1, players control Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit. Snake must liberate hostages and stop the terrorists from launching a nuclear strike. How much of that original premise makes it into this movie remains to be seen.
Isaac has lined up a lot of big projects since finishing up his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequels, and as well as the upcoming Dune, he recently signed on to star in Moon Knight for Marvel Studios. There, the actor will be taking on the title role as mentally ill mercenary, Marc Spector.
Given the actor's busy schedule, it's unclear when shooting will begin, but Metal Gear Solid is thought to be a priority for Sony Pictures. That's not overly surprising, as the franchise potential is huge.
How do you feel about Isaac taking on the role of Solid Snake?
