SPOILERS: We Know Who Is Playing Ares In WONDER WOMAN And It's Not Who You Expected

It appears as if Warner Bros. has been playing games with us because some test screenings have taken place for Wonder Woman and a reliable outlet has revealed who is really going to suit up as Ares...

Ares' role in Wonder Woman has been rumoured for a while now, but it was recently confirmed thanks to both a magazine feature and some upcoming action figures. So far, most of us have assumed that X-Men Origins: Wolverine baddie Danny Huston would be revealed as that character, but it appears as if Warner Bros. has been playing a game of misdirection!

Test screenings for the movie took place yesterday, and while it's not clear if this information hails from those, Batman-News reports that multiple sources have told them Harry Potter star David Thewlis will, in fact, be revealed as Ares, a character who is the main villain in Wonder Woman and a mixture of CGI and practical effects.

We've known about the actor's involvement in the movie for some time now, but most of us probably assumed he was playing some sort of unassuming military figure or scientist. His character being revealed as Ares is likely a pretty significant twist, though there's obviously a chance Warner Bros. could show him off in the final trailer for Wonder Woman. What do you guys think?

@Jaspion - I heard he could be Zeus. Makes sense since he's an Olympian.

@BarryShitPeas -

Word is it's pretty good. Less convoluted story and that there's more to it than the cool action scenes.

What a fantastic and unexpected choice! I really hope we get to see him command the screen. I almost wish they weren't going so gung-ho on Darkseid and would make someone like Ares the big bad.
