WONDER WOMAN Concept Art Reveals A Far More Intimidating-Looking Design For The Villainous Ares

Some unused concept art for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman has popped up online, and features a more intimidating and comic book-accurate design for the film's big bad, Ares the God of War. Check it out...

Most of us would agree that the Wonder Woman movie was pretty damn awesome, but one of the more divisive elements was definitely the villainous Ares.

Though David Thewlis did a pretty good job with what he had to work with, the overall design of the character's "final form" just didn't work for many people, and in the end the mighty God of War didn't come across nearly as formidable or intimidating as he really should have.

Now, concept artist Peter McKinstry has shared what appears to be his final design for Ares, which clearly went through quite a few alterations before reaching the screen. This actually looks a lot like the official promo art that was used in the buildup to the release, so there's a good chance those changes were made very late in the process.

Pretty cool, right? At the very least they could have shaded-out Thewlis' face and added the glowing red eyes.

Anyway, let us know what you think in the usual place, and we'll keep you posted on a home release date for Wonder Woman.

That is Ares! Why they went with what they did, I'll never understand it.

@BlackIceJoe - Patty said in a interview she made the final decision......and she felt that using scrap metal from tanks etc.....made more sense.

@JoeMomma29 - I don't see why he couldn't have just appeared in his true form with this kind of armour on

Doing that felt like it was trying to ground things in reality

@JoeMomma29 -

I loved how he was literally melting steel and iron from the tanks and war planes onto his flesh to make armor, that was a great touch i thought...my only problem was how...his "ARES" qualities stopped there.

@JoeMomma29 - While it "makes sense"... it's a comic book villain. It doesn't really NEED to make sense. The guy is a God, him just transforming into this concept art design would have made egual sense to me.

The scrap metal wouldn't have bothered me as much if we didn't still see his human face the whole time. In my opinion, he should've grown bigger and his face should've blacked out with the red eyes. If they had done that, the scrap metal armor would've been better to me personally.

It's okay. I prefer the movie version.

@blackandyellow - I think the movie version was better as well. I just think they should have changed a few things, like add the red eyes, remove the stache, and maybe make him transform into a bigger buffer version of himself like bane or the hulk.

@CaptainA - I agree... red eyes and black out his face. Don't make him look human anymore whatsoever. And make him was bigger than Diana.

@CaptainA - They should have given him a distinguished goatee. Like a Sigmund Freud type thing. Like he had in the Justice League animated series. He could still be unassuming in his human form, but intimidating as hell when he is revealed to be Ares.

Cool but in my opinion this would have been just a faceless brute cliche enemy, even if you felt he ended up that way the design wasn't a straightforward tell
