Bryan Singer On Rogue's Removal From X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer comments on his decision to cut Rogue's (Anna Paquin) action sequence from the film. "It does not mean that we won't see her in the film," says the X-Men director.

Rogue Bryan Singer X-Men

It was recently revealed that Bryan Singer decided to leave a big action scene showcasing Anna Paquin's Rogue on the cutting room floor. However, it seemed unfathomable that the True Blood actress would not still appear in the film in some capacity as she's already been heavily involved in the promotional material [including appearing on the recent EMPIRE Magazine cover]. Singer now tells Empire that just because that action sequence was removed from the film, it doesn't mean the Rogue will not appear in some capacity. "It was one real sequence in the movie," rehashed Singer. But he added, "It does not mean that we won't see her in the film. Also, I hope to make the sequence available on the DVD as she was quite wonderful in it. She is an important part of the X-Men family. I 'm very pleased she will remain as one of Empire's anniversary covers." Do you think some intentional misdirection is afoot? Or will Rogue truly be relegated to the background?

Now the cover makes sense. Before he made it seem as if she was taken out of the movie all together.

I thought the statement was going to be "definitive" about Rogue?
It's still very vague.

Anyway, I'm THRILLED she's going to be in the movie.
She deserves to be.

Of course I'm annoyed it'll be a background part, we started the whole X-Men movie franchise with Rogue and she was undeservedly downplayed, this was Singer's chance to show how this dystopian future has hardened her and turned Rogue into a bad-ass.

Okay why is Singer all like "I only cut her out of one sequence, she's still in the movie .. DUH"
when his original statement when she was cut was:

"Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in."

He's an idiot.

If she had her flight/strenght power from the comics it would be cool to see her fight some sentinels, but that not being the case makes her boring.

It's a shame we won't be seeing this...

if the scene cut is ANYTHING like what that article before described, then it sounded epic.

Loook!!! There is Rogue!!!

Aw, she is gone. Oh well, I will see it on the DVD, like it was originally intended by Bryan Singer.

I just wish she was more of a fierce, sassy and tough woman like in the cartoon rather than the one who needs to be saved, weak, screaming in fear and pining over Iceman.

s/n I haven't heard many of you discuss this but no Gambit???

A film is edited and re-edited various times during post production. During one cut she was in, the next he took her out and then on the next he put her back in but on a smaller compacity. It may change again. That's just how the process works in post, when you're trying to fine tune a 2.5 hour movie out of a thousand + of hours of footage.

I like Anna Paquin, shame she won't have a large role or even a real supporting role in the film… Mostly because they'll continue the films with the young cast after this… Which means, no Anna Paquin as Rogue anymore.

I think she's a really good actress and I like the first two X-Men films and XMFC. I still think it's a pity they focused too much on Wolverine in the films. I liked that Rogue got a major role in the first film but characters like Storm, Cyclops and Jean could've been even more interesting.

The whole X-Men universe is so vast with so many great characters. I'm really looking forward to this film. Love the combination of the old and the new cast and also the addition of new mutants (sunspot!). I hope the film is good.

singer's a dick, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt with this film. aside from first class, he directed the 2 best x-men movies. i dig they gear they're wearing too, even if I'm still annoyed we haven't gotten logan wearing a [frick]ing mask.

Its a shame we will never get to see 'ROGUE' from X-men in the films, she has always been some twisted watered down version not the southern belle who can lift jumbo jets and fly into tornados all before breakfast with a cheeky wink and a smile that makes Gambit wanna go and release some real explosive kinetic energy, loved Rogue from the 90s cartoon, hated rogue from the movies.

Rogue NEEDS to be in the film. Even though we're getting Age of Apocalypse next, this movie is still basically the Ultimate film in Brian Singer's series. This finally ties all the films together, and Rogue is an integral part of the story. She was basically the protagonist in the first film, after all. She deserves some degree of closure.

The best thing that Singer did in regards to Rogue was explain why she had white streaks in her hair.
I thought that was pretty damn cool.
& I liked the veiny special effects too.

goddamn singer is lame.
tries to sell his love to the material by saying " look!we have lots of Xs everywhere"while showing the scenarios,is incapable to see anything interesting on the characters or the universe besides his own twisted POV on the subject of prejudice,is incapable to direct a powerful woman characterization and for what i have seen is incapable to work outside his "comfort" zone as X1,X2,superman returns and now DOFP have visually the same style and apparently the same flaws.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 1/30/2014, 5:24 AM

@GetsugaTensho22

I agree!
Although I read somewhere that Singer said Apocalypse will be using the past X-Men.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 1/30/2014, 5:25 AM

I know cuts happen in movies all the time.
But when the big selling concept of your movie is the fact your original cast members are returning, you'd damn well make-sure they all got some sort of role. (and not just being seen in the background).
