Speaking exclusively to IGN, Singer explains "I think there would definitely be room. I think it would be a very exciting thing. This universe has to establish itself before, but that would be a very interesting and fun thing." He goes on to say that "It's a completely different film. Xavier and Magneto are important characters as well. It's just a different X-Men film. I obviously love the character, but you can't not do it just because he's not in it."
What does this mean for the X-Men movie franchise? Wolverine being in a future first class movie would certainly contradict the cannon of the previous movies, or could they figure out a clever way to weave him in and keep continuity?

X-Men: First Class will be released worldwide in early June.
