James McAvoy Titles X-MEN: DOFP Movie "Biggest, Most Epic" X-Men Film Yet.

IGN caught up with James McAvoy this week to discuss his new film Filth, and while they had the star cornered, fired a few questions at him about X-Men: Days of Future Past, the time-travelling superhero sequel in which his Professor X finally comes into contact with Patrick Stewart’s.

You've just finished the movie – how was the experience?

There’s an army of brilliant actors in that film. Bryan Singer is back at the helm. Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they've ever had. I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they're definitely going for it.

What has Bryan brought to proceedings?

Bryan’s very protective of the series. He did create it. He

did help form that environment that allowed subsequent superhero movies to exist and thrive like they have done for the last however many years. Not to say that there weren't other superhero movies out at the time, but of that ilk, where it was OK to take it really seriously. He does take it really seriously. There’s a kind or reverence about it, which I like. You want people to take it seriously. That’s what he brings to it I think. And a safe pair of hands – you know you're in good hands.

What was it like getting to share the screen with Patrick Stewart?

His last day was my first day and that was it. Then we were done. But we did crossover and we do get a scene together. Getting to work with Hugh [Jackman] – who I christened Hugo Boss – was great. What he’s like on camera when he’s getting interviewed and you think he’s the nicest man in show business – he is. He’s amazing. The guy’s got grace coming out of every single pore. If we could all be a bit more like Hugh it would be a very happy planet.

What about the rest of the ensemble?

Getting to work with Michael Fassbender again was great. I spent a hell of a lot of time with Nicholas Hoult. Weirdly the people that I spent the most time with acting-wise was not Michael this time, it was Hugh and Nick. And whilst I bemoaned the loss of my buddy Michael, it was more than made up for by the fact that Hugh and Nick are such amazing people.

Ian McKellen recently officiated at Patrick Stewart’s wedding – do you and Michael have a friendship like that?

Oh really? [Laughing] That makes me sick. It makes me f**king sick. Put it away. I'm only joking – it’s nice, it’s really nice. One of the things about this industry is that relationships can be quite transient – they come and go. Just by the nature of the fact that your job changes every three months. And to see that they've been friends for the last 14 years because of a job makes me feel a lot more hopeful about the relationships that I create.

So might you officiate at a Fassbender wedding someday?

I don't know. You'll have to ask Michael about that!

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

The cast features characters from the original trilogy of X-Men films and the prequel X-Men: First Class. James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask, Omar Sy as Bishop, Halle Berry as Storm, and Daniel Cudmore as Colossus.

I hope Bryan Singer has learned from his mistakes(Superman Returns and Jack Slayer) that he really needs to bring his A game..... Atleast something that can be on the Avengers movie level.

Nothing good will come  from this movie. Unless the rights go back to Marvel! THis movie is a clown car of crap!

"In this next one Bryan, let's put all the mutants in the movie we haven't used yet so we don't lose the rights" - said some moronic Fox movie head.

The thought of the X-Men films being produced by Marvel Studios sickens me.
The whole Mutant menace thing in a world with The Avengers,Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four may work in the comics but to the average joe it would come off as stupid in live action.
WarnerBrother
WarnerBrother - 10/2/2013, 2:50 PM
@Nomis

I shouldn't have to tell you that most of the people who watch comic book movies do not read comic book and could care less about that continuity.

The difference between Homo Superior and Superhuman, alien and god is one most people will not get. Why fear a leader like Cyclops but embrace ones like Captain America and Reed Richards because of the source of their powers?

Sure Magneto is a threat but to judge a hero a threat based on his powers coming from natural genetic mutation verses exposure to cosmic rays is a difference with no meaning. In my humble opinion of course.

WarnerBrother - 10/2/2013, 2:58 PM
@Jollem

If you rear my post you can clearly see that I basically admitted the Mutant situation works in the comics so its not like Nomis burned me by telling me something I didn't already know. I would like to hear him address my comments about how translating that concept to a live action shared universe would (IMHO) BE STUPID.

@Wolverine#8 Are you sure, it sounds like your opinion man. It sounds like you don't like mine though...Interesting.

I'm just not clear on why Singer needs to re-invent the wheel with the X-Men?Most if not all of the comic could have could have translated well, if the work had been done. I wonder how the Joss Wheadon X-Men script may have worked? We will never know...Sad.

Fun Facts:

Bryan Singer refused to work with the source material, this is a fact!

Which gave way to the polarization fans of the comic and the film, this is a fact!

Fox made these movies for money, this is a fact!

They did not make as much money as the Avengers, this is a fact!

Joss made it work, this is a fact!

Bryan did not make 1B with the 1st X-Men or the 2nd or 1st class, this is a fact!

Now what is your opinion?
TheWolverine08
TheWolverine08 - 10/2/2013, 10:20 PM
@Astromec I'm going to have lots of fun tearing up your claims
1. Yes, Bryan Singer went away from the source material. That will happen with CBM sometimes because a comic book is a director brings his own unique take on a comic book property. Christopher Nolan LARGELY deviated from the source material with his Dark Knight trilogy and still made some of the best comic book movies of all time.

2. Correct, and all fans will ever agree with a comic book movies direction.

3. Um........ ALL comic book movie studios make comic book movies to make money. They want to make money because they are a business. I really don't get your point here.

4. Joss Whendon is not the first director to make a comic book movie successful. Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Jon Favreau, etc all did successfully before Joss.

5. LMAO! What? So if a CBM doesn't make as much money as Avengers it's a failure? I guess you think that The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Spider-Man 1, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man 1, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, etc. are all failures then according to your logic? Now that's just sad.

Your post was so full of asinine nonsense. You want to know my opinion? Brian Singer's X1 was a pretty good comic book movie and his X2 is still one of the best comic book movies of all time. And he will hit it out of the park again with Days of Future Past in 2014. That's my opinion.
