NYPD Investigating X-MEN Director Bryan Singer For Alleged Sexual Assault Earlier This Year

Michael Egan may have dropped his lawsuit against X-Men: Days of Future Past director, but now the New York Police Department have confirmed that they are investigating the filmmaker for allegations that he sexually assaulted a man earlier this year. Read on for further details...

According to The Wrap, the New York Police Department's Special Victims Squad are investigating a complaint that Bryan Singer sexually assaulted a man in his twenties back in March. This is before the allegations by Michael Egan were made, but the criminal complaint was filed on May 9th, around a month after Egan announced his claims to the press. Both of the lawsuits alleging that he sexually assaulted two minors have been dropped (though they were dismissed without prejudice, meaning that Egan at least could file one again), and why we're only just now hearing about this is unclear. While no charges have been filed against Singer as of yet, the site adds that, "According to his lawyer Martin Singer (no relation), neither he nor his client have been contacted by the NYPD in relation to the investigation. Deputy Chief Kim Royster confirmed the investigation for the media, adding that it is not necessarily unusual for Singer to have not yet been contacted while an investigation is ongoing." The key different here is that this is a CRIMINAL complaint and not a CIVIL one. Twentieth Century Fox still want to release X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, and with Singer caught up in this, it could be that they'll soon look for another director to helm the X-Men: Days of Future Past follow-up. We'll be sure to keep you updated. What do you guys think?

Ha, Singer's either the unluckiest man in the world, the most hated man in the world....or he's every bit the skeevy, creepy, messed up person most people already think he is.

Ugh...I seriously doubt he did it at this point. The timing is a little suspect in terms of all of this. I think it is best to just leave it alone. Hopefully I'm not wrong in trusting the guy.

A full fledged and public police investigation in a progressive city like NYC is BAD news. Means they have something. This is NOT the lawsuit from before.

Singer + Xmen seems to equal good movies..i hope he isnt THIS type of scumbag..

For [frick] sakes, either this guy was in on this with Eagan and shit didn't go as planned so Eagan dropped his case, this could just be a coincidence that two liars are pegging Singer as a sexual predator, or Singer actually assaulted one or both of these people. I just want this over with.

MUCH respect to the NYPD, but one of their own went straight into a prohibited chokehold and killed a man on the street in broad daylight for selling cigarettes.

I can see how they might want to focus their attention to something like a salacious Hollywood sex crimes case to divert the attention right now.

OLIVIA BENSON please get to the bottom of this! Anybody can sue someone but victims want justice. Perhaps there is truth to the allegations. Shall we start fan casting his replacement now?

Welp, if Singer isn't the director for Apocalypse then who's going to replace him? Hopefully Matthew Vaughn is up for directing it, that's if Singer isn't coming back of course.

Oh, for...

GOD DAMN IT, WHAT THE HELL DOES THE COSMOS HAVE AGAINST BRYAN SINGER ACTUALLY MAKING THE X-MEN FILMS HE PROMISES TO MAKE?!?

He teases the Phoenix at the end of X2, then he jumps ship to make a mediocre Superman film. He flat-out promises Apocalypse after Days of Future Past, and now the guy has been hammered by a civil AND criminal action regarding his sexual proclivities!

I DON'T think any of these charges are well-founded. The lawsuit was obviously an attempt to cash in on Singer's renewed cache as a big-name Hollywood director with all the buzz from DoFP, and this... well, this is harder to write off. But the fact that he hasn't been arrested, and wasn't even made AWARE of the charges, at least tells me that whatever the NYPD has, it's far from conclusive. It could be hearsay, for all we know.

I just really, really, REALLY hope that Fox lets Singer direct X-Men Apocalypse. They seem to have really bad taste in replacement directors, and I don't want to see Apocalypse turn into another Last Stand...

@PeterDarker121: Interesting point... It's not like the NYPD are exactly doing much, other than diverting attention to a high-profile celebrity.

Well...there has been another allegation that allegedly happened this year (Egan's alleged abuse many was years ago) so it's not over.

Singer has been accused of sexual impropriety with young men as far back as when he made his film 'Apt Pupil'.

Either young men just love to pick solely on Singer for some reason, or there may actually be something to these claims. He is known for throwing massive wild parties full of young men (according to a director that attended one) so who knows?

Oh wow, I just hope the investigation is very fair and thorough, that is all.
If he's innocent and they're not gonna press charges then I hope they make that extremely clear.
If he's guilty, then they should do the same.

Well, it's good to know they are being thorough. Whether he did anything or not, the whole truth and a full investigation should be done. I'm not going to sit and say he did anything or vice versa, but if so many allegations have been raised, they should all be answered.
