RUMOR: Top Contender for 'Banshee' in X-Men: First Class

Latino Review reports that an unknown actor, Caleb Landry Jones, is the top contender to star in 20th Century Fox prequel, X-Men: First Class. Check it Out!

With a cast so far including Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X, and recent Alice Eve as Emma Frost, the story for the prequel to the 'X-Men" trilogy focuses on Marvel's superpowered mutant team 'X' in a younger incarnation than the previous trilogy. So we can expect more actors enrolling in 'First Class' filling in the roles of our beloved mutants over time.

And now According to Latino Review's "trusted sources", unknown actor Caleb Landry Jones is the top contender to bag the role of Sean Cassidy aka BANSHEE in the Matthew Vaugn-directed prequel.

Caleb Landry Jones a considerable unknown, appeared as "boy on bike" in No Country for Old Men(pictured below), and the 20 year old can be seen in this year's The Last Exorcism & in David Fincher's The Social Network.

Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Werner Roth,Banshee was an Irish mutant, whom possesses a "sonic scream," capable of harming enemies’ auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. He is named after the banshee, a legendary ghost from Irish mythology, said to possess a powerful cry, although the banshee spirit is invariably female.

There was a small reference to the character in 'X-Men 2', with his name appearing on a list of names 'Mystique' scrolls through on Stryker's computer while looking for Magneto's file.

DCMF: You can obviously take this with a grain a salt, for now. But if true, how do you feel about "Banshee" actually appearing in the film, and a potential unknown portraying him?

While he wasn't part of the original tea, he was around a little after they first started out.It would fit him being there, since Moira is in the movie. Also, Siryn was in part 2 and 3.

I just hope they don't use that gawd-awful costume. I've always hated that version.

@bleedthefreak16 I would be ok with Banshee if it was along the lines of an origin background with his ties to Moira and her subsequent ties to Xavier. I agree it needs to be original 5 for the X Men for sure. With a proper Iceman...made no sense why he was so young in the previous X Men. A background of him and Scott has got to be a basis for a good movie.

@Hamm3rtym3 said everything I wanted to :) But everything we know so far has me convinced that it's a 100% prequel...

If we hear about any black actresses being tested, we'll know it's a prequel and not a reboot.

Be great to have him portrayed as a contemporary of X's rather than a student.

Maybe ex-UK Royal Marine, who just HAPPENS to be coaching the Kids (Pre- Danger Room) - certainly would mean the actor would need to be in his 30's at least. Be nice to have a few characters who aren't all snot nosed gen Y's... Maybe have him fulled into the fray as Beast was in X-men 3 (Sweet Jesus, I hope it's better..).

I like this. I've always liked Banshee. Very underrated character. So much potential, but was never used for anything. Kind of a waste, but with this casting possibly happening, he's looking to finally get his just dues. Whether this kid can act or not, is a different story. I hope he can.

Jeez - this story gets more and more confuising for this film.

Without seeing a script it's hard to know in what direction this film is taking.

Cheeky I know but is it possible for someone to do an article collecting all the facts for this film? Maybe then we can piece together where and when it is set - whether it is a prequel or a reboot, etc???

Banshee should not be in First Class. It's unnecessary. I'm guessing that this movie is going to be yet another cameo filled mess that shits all over the comic books. I cant believe Matthew Vaughn signed on for this...I hope I'm wrong but right now it's shaping up to be a real stinker. God, I hate Fox.

Agreed with TYLER 'n' JOSH!!

Why don't FOX just make a GENERATION X movie if they wan't BANSHEE so much, but seriously, he should be kept for X-MEN 4 (CABLE included) : D

telavizion @ So basically what you said is you want another X3 crapper??? ; P

P.S. IF it wasn't for the x-fans and buying the book, there would be no movies to begin with, [frick] non-comic fans, they'll take whatever is given to them, so might as well be a great FIRST CLASS movie instead of BORIGINS 90210!

Just read that it might be an unknown playing Iceman. It’s believed to be one of the writer/actors, from a new programme, this would indicate it would be 1. Adam Wilson 2. Mark Mitchell. Anyone know who these are and what they've done?

If they use BANSHEE I hope they at Least get an IRISH Actor! I mean there are not many Irish superoes/villains. Don't go changing 'em now.

@joshcharmely..Yeah that would have been my hope. But as long as whoever they cast can do a convincing Oirish accent I'll be happy enough.

Telavizion, been done already dude.

Josh/Lee, don't hold out any hope, your gonna hate this movie:)

this is getting worse & worse,ORIGINAL TEAM ONLY.
this is shaping up to be a sequel to wolverine or at least a fill in gap until wolverine 2.
lets just hope matthew vaughn does a great job with the story & charactors his been forced to use.
I'M DREADING WHAT FOX HAVE GOT PLANNED WITH DEADPOOL.

Banshee might have been around early, but not for the First Class of Xmen. in fact, his first appearance wasn't until Giant Sized X-Men #1, which was YEARS into the X-Men series. thats also the same issue that Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Thunderbird joined, if that puts any kind of reference point out there.

so no, he should NOT be in the movie. But like people have already said, this movie is being made wrong. its just frustrating that every time they have a new x-men or Wolverine movie coming, Donner and Co. say its going to follow the comics. then they don't. So they either don't know what they're talking about, or they're flat out lying.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/29/2010, 4:18 AM
@ toocool

it wouldn't make any sense for iceman to be in this anyway. He was too young in the X-Men movies. this takes place way before those, he would have to be like 10.

Am I the only one that thinks they're not really doing First Class but some sort of Professor X and/or Magneto Origins and they just titled it "First Class"?

I mean, seeing all this casting it seems that we're not really getting the original X-men team and if they're actually in the movie they won't be the main part of it.

CDB: Banshee appearred long before Giant sized #1. I think it was an issue somewhere in the 20's. :)

ROR @ I hear hubby ROSS boy is a die-hard comic book fan, so with wifey involved we could get a decent X-MEN movie!

TELA @ How can you say X3 was better than X2 or X-MEN??? (Okay, they ain't perfect but they was good in their day, after all, thats all we had then was a handful of cbm's and stinkers like BATMAN & ROBIN).

Like i said JOE PUBLIC will love anything thrown at them dude, so it don't matter, its just HOLLYWOOD wanting to put their own crappy mark on them!

Mindform @ Yeah lol!

Plus you can do a great movie without going page to page.

End of the day HOLLYWOOD [frick]s up so much it ain't funny and they've proven it, and with all their millions its pretty sad!

IF they did more source movies, they would have much more HITS than MISSES!!!

Common sense! : P

ROR @ lol! : D

Thanks for the update DCMF! :)
As much as I would want the original five to be the main focus of the film, I did expect that we would be seeing Banshee in this film as he did make a cameo in XMO:W. I guess we can expect to see a young Quicksilver and Toad if I'm not mistaken.

Donner is a lying [foo foo] that knows JACK SHIT of what she's talking about! KEEP HER THE [frick] AWAY FROM WONDER WOMAN!!!

As for this film, it's really shaping up to be a whole other bag o' shit than what it's supposed to be. I just hope they at least make it entertaining shit.

the only reason they should have banshee in this movie is if they're gonna incorporate moira mctaggert and the island in the story. Outside of that, I don't see the impact he'd make.

Banshee should be just a bit younger than Xavier. Cassidy was already a former Interpol agent when he ran into the "teenage" X-men.---GOD THEY NEED TO REBOOT THIS!!

I really think that when the trailers and promotion start for this movie and we see it's not the "First Class" from the comic with "OG five" and some stupid mash up of mutants that FOX has concocted we as comic book readers/supporters/fanboys should boycott this movie. Not like chanting and signs outside of FOX studios but REALLY & ACTUALLY not go see the movie (like we always say we'll do but never ACTUALLY do). We can just see a pirated version or wait to rent the DVD release. We have to start sticking up for the characters and comics that we initially make popular from the sales of comic books that WE buy. If it wasn't for us making the characters popular their wouldn't be movies anyway.

Did people really think that this movie would be any different then the garbage we've seen from Fox thus far? Bryan Singer is one of the producers. That alone should tell you that this movie is no kind of reboot. In the last bunch of X-men movies we've seen that the original team in their universe cosists of Cyclops, Jean and Beast. Iceman is just a kid and doesn't appear as a solid member until 3. Nobody has even heard of Angel until 3 as well. What they are driving at is a Generation X type of mish mash where Emma Frost and Banshee are either teachers or founding members. It's the same old unfaithful crap we've seen before. I hope it fails miserably so they have to give the rights back to Marvel. Like Wolverine, I will not be paying money to see it.

@Juggernaut I'm for real. I feel as if FOX keeps slapping us in the face with their CBM's...I mean it's just not right seeing that these are characters and storys we grew up with; and for some of outlets into another world to escape from the negative aspects of our own.

You guys can qoute me on it and even ask me when it does finally come out. I WILL NOT GO SEE THIS IN THEATRES!!!

Not saying I won't watch the "bootleg" but I will not spend my money in support of it.

Shoutout to Marvel Studios and Warner Brothers (DC comics) for staying true to their source materials and still making great movies. Hopefully one day they'll regain the rights to all their characters and we'll have great movies reminiscent of the comic books and characters that we love.
