Stephen Lang Is Interested In Playing Cable!

Speaking to Screenrant at NYCC, the Avatar star expressed interest in playing the X universes time travelling badass..

Ever since audiences saw Lang as Col. Miles Quaritch in James Cameron’s Avatar, the internet was full of people fan casting him as Cable, the mutant freedom fighter/soldier from the X-Men universe. He looks the part, and plays those type of characters with ease. Well, turns out he knows all about it! While at NYCC, Screenrant's Kofi Outlaw caught up with Lang and mentioned the idea of playing the character to him.

From Screenrant..

To my surprise, Lang not only knew who Cable was – he’s already formed opinion about playing him. Comic book fans hold on to your hats:

“One of boys mentioned to me – he says, ‘Hey pops, they’re talking about you for Cable,’ and I said ‘Who would that be?’ and so he Googled him for me and I saw him and I thought ‘Oh wow, he’s cool.’

When asked directly if he’d be interested in the role:

“Yes, I’m there. [Laughter] Sure, why not. I’d be happy to. You read it all, everything that comes across. And if it makes sense, if it’s a cool character, if it’s a theme you want to explore…sure.”

Obviously this is not confirmation of anything. Its not even known if Fox(who currently hold the rights to The X-Men characters) have any plans to bring Cable to the screen any time soon. Still, its good that lang is getting the word out. If the Fox execs have any sense, they will take notice! We will see Lang next as the villain in the upcoming Conan movie.

@ rormachine

he'd make a great cable, but fox will make a shit movie.

unless they do a time travel storyline where cable sorts out all previous storyline f*ck ups.

but the fox ceo's are so up their own arses, they're pleased with the shit they keep churning out year after year.

so we will never actually see the x-related movies that we want.

f*ck fox!

Cable shouldnt be in the 1st movie. Sequels, yes.

Michael Biehn is still my 1st choice for Cable, but Lang comes in close 2nd.

@Cataract i see Dolph Lundgren more as T-Ray than Cable

I say go for it. But don't make just a Cable movie. Lang's uptight Quarich character with Reynold's Deadpool/Van Wilder character would make an awesome team in a Deadpool movie.

As deadpool72 said, "he'd make a great cable, but fox will make a shit movie." Truer words never spoken which is a real pity as he'd really nail a role like Cable. However, I can't help but think that there's another actor out there even better suited to the role...no idea who though! :P

Well, the only movie I've seen him in is Avatar, so since I don't have anything to go off of except that performance, I'd have to say no thanks.

Stephen Lang is old, yes.
Cable is also old, remember he is the bad a** leader of the New Mutants. It wouldn't make any sense if a young guy played him.
ShadowkinG
ShadowkinG - 10/9/2010, 6:51 PM
I thought Col. Miles was a rip off of Cable since most of the creatures were ripped off of Final Fantasy.
Not saying he couldnt do the job, just sayin didnt he do it already?
Betty
Betty - 10/9/2010, 9:40 PM
I think he's just barely too old. They should use a slightly younger, beefier guy. And it's easier to make a young guy look old than a old guy look young. And he did already play Cable!
