The Reality of the FOX Deal with Disney and X-Men's Future

While many giddy fans are cheering at the prospect of X-men "returning" home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is it really what people think will happen?

The grubby fingers of every MCU fan everywhere greased up in delight with the news of the X-men possibly coming "home" to the Marvel Cinematic Universe where they feel it belongs. But will FOX being bought by Disney really be everything that fans dream of? Perhaps not, lets look at some incredibly likely scenarios.

There Is No Reboot?

Something that people often forget is that Kevin Feige and Simon Kinberg are actually good friends in the industry, and Kinberg has often cited that he would love to see his X-men crossover with the MCU, even as early as last year. So something that many fans may not have thought of is that there may not even be a reboot after all in this scenario. Reboot fatigue has become very real in the past few years and to reboot a franchise with the love of the general audience like X-Men, it may just be too much, especially with some of the biggest comic-movie hits of all time Deadpool and Logan in the past two years. Something that many comic fans have to take into account is that the general audience is not the same as the comic fan audience, in fact, the general whiny comic fans are going to be the very, very small minority of people actually going to see these films. So it could be very likely that the X-men may be seen in the MCU, but not in the way fans want.

21st Century Fox Is Not Going To Be Dissolved

While many would assume Fox will just disappear under the potential buyout of Disney, that just is not the case. The vast size of the studio means that Fox will very likely continue producing movies, just under Disney ownership. In fact, rumors are going around that James Murdoch may end up replacing Bob Iger as Disney CEO in the long run. This could in fact point to X-Men staying at Fox with perhaps a few teamup movies so CGI Thing and CGI Hulk can fight CGI Galactus.

It Is just Too Late To Include The X-Men Permanently In The MCU

A small detail left out of most articles mentioning the Fox-Disney deal is that it will take at least until Late 2018, though likely early 2019 to actually finalize the potential deal. Inbetween that time Avengers 4 will have already been completely filmed and not only will Gambit and several other X-films be completed filming, but at least two of three of it's untitled Marvel films will already be filming. People may say that Fox would simply cancel these projects, but a major studio does not cancel tentpole films just because of a deal going on like this, it still needs the money from these films. And many fans of the MCU have said that in Avengers 4, Scarlet Witch will just randomly introduce characters with eighty years of history behind them, but with the filming schedule and the timeline of this deal, it's just not likely that they will even appear in Avengers 4. What is more likely is perhaps a situation similar to Supergirl and Flash on the CW, playing around with parallel universes.

Conclusively, will this possible deal be exactly what fans want? Most likely not, just due to the nature of the film business. Though fans can leave their thoughts and fan-fictions down below on what they think will happen!

Bullshit on both those things
People arent tired of reboots they're tired of the same type of movies, and you could say that the muties lived hidden or that mutations began happening not that long ago.
If Kevin Feige gets his hands on the X-men he's gonna want to put his own spin on them

It’ll never be too late to include the X-Men. Or any other property Marvel hasn’t utilized yet.

"in fact, the general whiny comic fans are going to be the very, very small minority of people actually going to see these films"

Except Kevin Feige is one of these "whiny comic fans". He's the boss. There is no way he doesn't recast, reboot and do the characters justice. These new characters can inject new life blood into the MCU for the next 15 years so he's gonna be dead set on getting it right.

The other thing with the X-Men and the "reboot fatigue" that you mentioned is that Fox have been SO far off the mark with the comic accuracy that a Marvel Studios version is going to feel so different. Hopefully better, but certainly with a tonne more hype.

Ok, no. To say it is objectively too late to add X Men is just ridiculous. Why? They had a world without magic until doctor strange. The X gene could only have just activated for the first time in their continuity. It’s marvel studios, they can do whatever they want to.
