Wolverine in April - Opening Wednesday Instead of Friday

Wolverine in April - Opening Wednesday Instead of Friday

X-men origins: Wolverine's release date has been bumped up to April 29th. Two days less for hardcore wolverine fans to wait! Whoo hoo!

By CBMcontributor - Feb 06, 2009 01:02 PM EST

They do this now-a-days to get a higher box office take. Instead of a three day weekend, it now has 5 days to make the big bucks.

Where/who did you hear this from because the official website still says May 1

Not so sure about this, I read about this but thus far Fox had not confirmed it and with them just barely releasing a poster last week that said May 1, I find it unlikely that they will change the release date just one week later. Some sites do have the game listed for April 29th though.

I will tell you what I want to see but it probably won't happen because it would be awsome. Nick Fury and CPT America cameo's in the WWII scenes.

ElBeaster - 2/6/2009, 10:09 PM
I'm gonna say that will never happen before someone else does. People keep saying that and they keep getting freak out on. Woverine is a FOX flick and Nick Fury and Captain America still belong to Marvel, so they won't be doing any crossovers.

Why open a blockbuster like this on a Wednesday...It makes no sense...Friday May 1 is the most logical date..If I were another studio with a tentpole and this news were true I would be smacking it down on May 1st because the demand for this movie will be front loaded with it making 35-50% of it's money in it's first weekend (if it is over five days and not three). It's not a long weekend, alot of kids are still in school although that would not stop most of them from seeing in on April 29th or 30th, this just seems to be a very bad move for FOX and would probably kill any chances the film has at having a 100 million dollar three day weekend which is the new gold standard for movies....

I think it would be better on the 29th just because Star Trek comes out the week after which will be a big hit to their possible box office. And you know the Treks are going to go mental for that.

People are accustomed to seeing new movies on Fridays. They'll have to advertise the hell out of it, so people will know.

Yes please submit the link to your source.. maybe you are mistaking it with the videogame release date like imandrew said..

..or perhaps it will be a premiere for charity for example.

This sucks because I have class on Wednesday and not on Friday. Oh, well. If the Wolverine storyline had a squid in it, I'm sure it would've been in the movie, and I'd go see it on Wednesday.

They do this shit all the time. Spider-man 3 was moved up a couple of days, as well as 2.

And I remember Superman Returns doing this as well. Doesn't mean anything. They just want to get an extra 2-3 days of business since it's the first summer tentpole pic.

Makes sense to me.

still says on the official website that the release date is May 1st:

http://www.x-menorigins.com/releasedates/

however, if ya wanna see it on April 29th, ye can watch it in the Philippines!

and can anyone tell me why Canada is not on this list? (apparently there are more movie-going Wolverine fans in Bahrain or Qatar than Canada?!)

Fox is going to attempt to pull in as much as it possibly can with Wolverine, so it only makes sense that they would release it as early as possible!!
(*The earlier in the week you release the film, the more you can say it pulled in on its "opening weekend".)
It's a bragging rights thing.

if its true its smart bc theyre gonna get hit with star trek opening the next friday...the need to get maximum value...theyre still gonna make $130mill over the 5 days

Gambit has a very small part in the movie according to Jackman so get your facts right before you post.

Ok I wonder why they would move up the date. Either way it will still be a Rockkin Movie!!!

Talontd-----Star Trek is popular because of the Idea it represent. I & others respect that u aren't a Trekkie--not even one is. But most people that say that don't understand what it's really about. Its the Idea of a better world. I won't preach but you get the point I believe.

They move up the date to extend the amount of time that counts as opening weekend, like Adam said.
If they open on a Wednesday then "opening weekend sales" are counted for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
If they open on Friday then only the sales from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday count.
SOOOOO, when they open on Wednesday they can brag that their opening weekend sales were much more than they would be if they open on Friday (since they can count 2 more days).
Plus, they don't have to compete as much with other movies opening on the weekend. Some people will see if Wednesday and tell everyone how great it was and those people will go see it and so on. So they might even have a bigger turnout on Friday.
It is more or less a marketing technique combined with the ability to brag about how much you made on opening weekend. Like others said, they have done this with other movies in the past.

Does anybody on here actually look into things for themselves? I posted this once, but apparently nobody reads the other posts, either.. Might as well post it again, then..

It still says on the official "X-men Origins: Wolverine" website that the release date is May 1st:

However, if you want to see it on April 29th, you can watch it in the Philippines!
