Most fans were overjoyed when Ryan Reynolds was cast as X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Wade Wilson in the 2009 movie, and his scenes as the character proved to be a lot of fun.
As part of Team X, the wise-cracking mutant - who could slice bullets in half with his katanas - dropped plenty of one-liners while heading into battle alongside Wolverine, Agent Zero, John Wraith, Fred Dukes, and Chris Bradley. However, years later, William Stryker transformed the Merc with the Mouth into Weapon XI.
Now a near-indestructible freak capable of unleashing a variety of mutant powers, Wade's scars vaguely resembled Deadpool's mask but it was an abysmal design and we were all glad to see him beheaded...until a post-credits scene teased his eventual return.
That at least left the door open to us eventually seeing a decent take on Deadpool, though one wouldn't come until the 2016 movie (which had no real ties to X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Now, some concept art from Logan's disastrous origin story has found its way online and...well, if you thought what we saw then was bad, this is perhaps even worse! Even Deadpool's creator, Rob Liefeld, has weighed in to criticise how his character was portrayed by 20th Century Fox.
Deadpool 2 later tackled X-Men Origins: Wolverine head-on, showing the present-day Wade gunning down Weapon XI and putting an end to that movie's final battle before it could ever really get started.
That was courtesy of Cable's time-travel device, though Wade will pay for his actions when the Time Variance Authority comes calling in Deadpool 3 next year!
