DEADPOOL Creator Rob Liefeld Shares "Horrified" Reaction To Resurfaced X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Concept Art

Some newly surfaced X-Men Origins: Wolverine concept art reveals more terrible designs for the 2009 movie's Wade Wilson, and even Deadpool's creator Rob Liefeld is horrified by what he's seeing here...

Most fans were overjoyed when Ryan Reynolds was cast as X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Wade Wilson in the 2009 movie, and his scenes as the character proved to be a lot of fun.

As part of Team X, the wise-cracking mutant - who could slice bullets in half with his katanas - dropped plenty of one-liners while heading into battle alongside Wolverine, Agent Zero, John Wraith, Fred Dukes, and Chris Bradley. However, years later, William Stryker transformed the Merc with the Mouth into Weapon XI.

Now a near-indestructible freak capable of unleashing a variety of mutant powers, Wade's scars vaguely resembled Deadpool's mask but it was an abysmal design and we were all glad to see him beheaded...until a post-credits scene teased his eventual return.

That at least left the door open to us eventually seeing a decent take on Deadpool, though one wouldn't come until the 2016 movie (which had no real ties to X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

Now, some concept art from Logan's disastrous origin story has found its way online and...well, if you thought what we saw then was bad, this is perhaps even worse! Even Deadpool's creator, Rob Liefeld, has weighed in to criticise how his character was portrayed by 20th Century Fox.

Deadpool 2 later tackled X-Men Origins: Wolverine head-on, showing the present-day Wade gunning down Weapon XI and putting an end to that movie's final battle before it could ever really get started.

That was courtesy of Cable's time-travel device, though Wade will pay for his actions when the Time Variance Authority comes calling in Deadpool 3 next year!

Check out these alternate Deadpool designs in the Tweet below.

It's enough to make a guy go crazy

Someone thought this was a good idea and they most likely still have a job in Hollywood.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - The guy who made them sew Deadpool's mouth shut and shelved the original Deadpool movie for so long was Tom Rothman. As crazy as it seems, he's now the current chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.

@NegativeNancy - So... that makes total sense then.

The irony in Rothman thinking Deadpool would be a flop while the movies are the highest grossing in the franchise.

@CoHost - He also said, "Nobody wants to see giant robots!" about the Sentinels like 3-ish years before Transformers 2007 came out.

Ewwww, suddenly what we got in XMO:W doesn't seem that bad (I know it is bad, still).

Im all for looking for the good in the bad and the only good things to come out of this movie was Liv as Sabertooth, Ryan as Wade, and the opening credits time jumping through all the wars.

To be fair if I didn't know this was meant to be Deadpool would have thought it was a cool design. For Deadpool is horrible.

Terrible looking, no feet in sight. Pretty consistent with his artistic vision if you ask me

Liefeld horrified at the concept art? Now he knows what other people feel like when they see his art.

@RolandD - I prefer leifeild art over wolverine origins and Logan

@RolandD - God, it's terrible, right? The same pinched nose, pissed off expression all the time, both male and female? No feet, ever! I can't believe there was once a short period of time where I thought his art was "bad ass". Ah, youth.

Imagine if they’d done this with Spider-Man, where his costume’s webbing pattern was actually scarification. 🤢

But like....why though? It's a pretty straight forward design. I don't understand why anyone would think its a good idea to take a beloved character and change them like this.

Even the one with the mask. Why the color change? Why the mouth and eye openings?

I'll never understand it.

"Horrified then, horrified still" is also something I'd say in regards to Liefield's artworks.

Wtf were they actually thinking when they made this movie?! 😂

I'll give them the tiniest bit of credit that at least the second concept with the helmet is vaguely reminiscent of Ultimate Deadpool (pretty sure his face is either a skull or had the skin torn off or something and he wears a glass helmet under his mask to make it look more normal shaped or something) and at least has the red and black colour scheme.

But even then... like, why?😂

It would have been so easy just make pre-Deadpool Wade a cameo at the beginning of the movie, who could star in a spin-off later, if the audience liked him, and let Weapon-XI be unrelated monster Wolverine fights at the end. I don't know why they though fans wouldn't throw a fit over a major change like this.

So they never even managed to have a single good idea for Deadpool ? Wild, considering the comics actually exist.

I can kind of half-forgive them for Barakapool, since it's stated in the movie hat he is NOT ready to be activated, meaning he's still a work in progress, but we all know that
