In the opening montage of Gavin Hood's 2009 comic book movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine we briefly see the two brothers, James 'Jimmy' Howlett (Hugh Jackman) and Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber), using their regenerative mutant powers as soldiers during the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, and even the Vietnam War. Originally, the plan was to show Jimmy/Wolverine whipping out his bone claws and treating confederate soldiers as human pincushions. As you can see in the video below, that was toned down for a more mild take.

In 1845 Canada, young James Howlett sees his father killed by groundskeeper Thomas Logan. The trauma activates the boy's mutation: bone claws protrude from James' hands, and he kills Logan. In his dying breath, Logan tells James that he is his real father. James flees with Logan's abused son and James' half-brother Victor Creed(A theory has also sprung up that Dog Logan from the Wolverine Origins comic may also be the future Sabertooth, and that the characters are one and the same, except for the difference of name in the movie and comic). The two survive for over a century as men in their prime, living out their violent urges together in the American Civil War and both World Wars. During the Vietnam War, Victor kills a superior after he stops a rape attempt, James defends his brother and the two are executed by firing squad, which they survive. Major William Stryker approaches the two and offers them membership in Team X, a group of mutants which includes marksman Agent Zero, mercenary Wade Wilson, teleporter John Wraith, invincible Fred Dukes and electricity-controlling Chris Bradley. The duo joins the team, but the group's questionable actions cause James to leave.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) - was directed by Gavin Hood, from a script written by David Benioff and Skip Woods. The film starred: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Lynn Collins, Taylor Kitsch, Kevin Durand and Ryan Reynolds. The movie grossed over $370 million at the worldwide box office.

The opener and Liev Schreiber were the best about the whole movie.

Yeah, the opening was the only good part of the movie.
The rest sucked. The CGI was the worst part though.

The opening was the only good thing about the entire film. It made me wish that was the movie I was watching, not the Jason Statham-esque generic revenge plot actioner that followed.

It just makes me depressed on repeat viewings, too, because Hugh Jackman - as usual - gives it 180%, and EVERYTHING ELSE about it lets him down so damn hard.

If you don't look too much into it, Origins can be enjoyable. A little off topic, but does anyone else think The Wolverine shoulda been a sequel to this instead of X3? I'd just like to know what happened to him between this and X1.

Anyone remember that scene where Stryker typed "DECAPITATE" into the computer to command Deadpool?

I've been a Wolverine fan since I was 4, and I'd be OK if this movie never happened.

Would have liked to seen some Philippine-American War action with Wolverine.

@DrDoom

You know it. The 90s were a particularly bad time for comics (Rob Leifeld??). For me nothing in the decade could be considered cannon. Just like 2000 to present.

As Wolverine fans, we'd all be better off if this movie was never made.

But, it is a fun movie to watch, it's got great action. The CGI is terrible, and every time I see Taylor Kitsch I want to stab him in the eye, but it's an entertaining popcvorn flick. So long as you forget it's a CBM.

Yikes

X-Men Origins was just stupidity-porn, so many ideas but no one thought how they impact on each other or the movie as a whole.

Bloody Logan growing up to look nothing like Victor or their father but instead he looks like Howlett the cuckold. Ball instantly dropped.

Then that terrible display of Team-X's capabilities. Instead of attacking at once they all take turns I guess they really wanted to push the whole brothers finally working together thing at the end.

At that point I knew I was doomed

Xmen origins wolverine was supposed to show wolverines animal side. The whole movie wolverine was supposed to be the same character they made Sabretooth play. Vicious & Not giving a [frick]. But wolverine was the "good guy" the whole movie. Seems like Wolverine was only in the war to help America while Victor was in the war just to get bodies. It would had been better if they were getting bodies together havin fun. It was supposed to show how bad of a person wolverine was then at the end see how he changed & turned on his team. Thats how I would had made my movie.

Origins is still my favorite superhero film to date. I thought it was brilliant the way they used Weapon X history to tie into the Singer films. And I realy did not mind the new take on Deadpool's origin. It was much smarter for film than his actual origin (cancer doesn't make great action scenes) and doesn't really keep any of the rest of it from happening in a solo movie. They even gave him teleportation power so they don't have to waste time showing him steal the tp device from Cable.
The rest of the movie showed us some fan favorite characters we wouldn't have seen otherwise, and it fixed Fox's interpretation of Sabretooth to match the modern comics.
I think the hate for the film just came from people watching that unfinished bootleg and already being geared up to pounce and hate on anything remotey related to Singer's X-Men. It was unwarranted.

It could've been decent if they actually based it on Origins OR Weapon X, not an unholy abomination birthed from both.
