As Josh reported yesterday Vaughan was offered the directing gig for First Class, but according to THR Blog he has passed(possibly a [frick] you over X3?) and Fox are now looking at Daniel Espinosa( the Swedish director behind the European crime thriller Snabba Cash)..
.."First Class," meanwhile, is a franchise reboot of Fox's "X-Men" movies, focusing on teens learning to use their mutant superpowers. Espinosa is one of several directors Singer and Fox are meeting with, but the fact that he even is in contention speaks to the swiftness and height of his rise. (Reports that "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn is going to direct the project are incorrect; he passed days ago. Rupert Sanders also is no longer in contention.)
It seems Fox are really scrambling for someone at this point. Cinematical report the following..
Reportedly, Fox is now looking at Louis Leterrier (who could use it to nurse his wounds over not getting The Avengers), Jonathan Mostow, Daniel Espinosa, and Rupert Sanders. Timur Bekmambetov, David Slade, and Carl Erick Rinsch are also in consideration. Perhaps it might be easier to make a list who isn't up for the job!
If Sanders(A rookie director with projects in development) has indeed passed and these names are in contention, my vote goes to either Slade(
30 Days Of Night,
Hard Candy) or Bekmanbetov. I wasn't a fan of
Wanted at all but I did like
Nightwatch and I think his style would lend some originality to the proceedings. Keeping in mind that this movie will have to go a long way to impress a lot of us anyway, who do you think would be the best fit?
