In the thrilling new action movie, Breakwater, Dovey (Darren Mann), a young, impressionable ex-con breaks his parole to do a solid for his prison mentor, a conniving inmate by the name of Ray Childress (Dermot Mulroney). Dovey crosses state lines to track down Ray's estranged daughter but soon discovers her past may be more dangerous than anything he ever faced in prison.
Today, we have an exclusive clip from the movie to share with you before it arrives in theatres and On Demand on December 22.
In this sneak peek, we see Childress make his escape and Mulroney, who recently starred in Scream VI and Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion, is in absolute beast mode as his character makes short work of those looking to keep him in captivity. When he gets his hands on a gun, though, it quickly becomes apparent that Childress will do whatever it takes to break free.
Breakwater also stars Alyssa Goss, Sonja Sohn, and Mena Suvari. You can check out this new clip in the player below.
Here's what writer and director James Rowe had to say about the movie:
"Films about opposing forces converging in an unforgiving landscape, they’ve always stuck with me.The Night of the Hunter, One False Move, Deliverance, whole episodes of Better Call Saul – I love it when the setting isn’t just a backdrop, but also another sort of complication or antagonist. Teaming with producer and former Navy SEAL Matt Paul gave me the ability to navigate the complex maritime and underwater sequences I had conceived. Matt was the perfect partner to deliver the big story-crucial set pieces."
"Of the three main characters in the movie, two are trying to build new lives and one wants his old life back. We soon find out it isn’t possible for everyone to get want they want at the same time. That’s where the main tension lies: these three central desires playing against each other in a high-stakes way. I find it really relatable how the people around us can hold us back, set us free, or sometimes become a danger to our future."
Breakwater is ultimately about second chances and the choices that follow us. It explores how personal histories, even the prior struggles of our ancestors, inform the decisions we make today. I aim to strike a dark note of humor as I bring together a former inmate and a small-town transplant to frame the idea that no one can truly begin again without first laying to rest the mistakes of their past."
