Godzilla 2: Despite having its share of critics (what movie doesn’t?), Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot thrilled both diehard Godzilla fans and casual moviegoers, and started a whole new American franchise for the radioactive lizard. At Comic-Con 2014, it was revealed that Godzilla 2 would be coming in 2018, that Gareth Edwards would be back to direct, and the film would feature the classic Godzilla monsters Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. Being so far off, it’s likely that we won’t get much news about this one until next year (Edwards is working on Star Wars: Rogue One), but a title or some concept art would be a great treat for Godzilla fans.
Star Trek 3 (Beyond?): Very little is known about the third entry in the Star Trek reboot series, except that the cast is returning and that Justin Lin would direct. The movie is set to be released next year, so a confirmation of the title and some hints of plot details would be a great addition to a sure to be epic Comic-Con.
Kong: Skull Island: Last year it was announced that another King Kong movie would be released in 2016. It has since been moved back to 2017, but it’s never to early to start marketing the film. Some plot details (Is it a prequel, sequel, reboot?) would be very interesting, as would some solid info on the cast and crew.
Spider-Man News: Everybody is waiting with bated breath for any form of Spidey news, and so many months of news and rumors have left fans saying “just announce it already!” It’s been a frustrating few months for fans, with so many casting rumors, none any more likely that the other, and so many rumors concerning the plot, villains, title, and director.
MCU Announcements: We know Marvel is sitting out a Hall H presentation this year, but that doesn't mean we still couldn’t get some news from them. Some plot synopsis or concept art would definitely get fans talking.
Marvel TV: With Daredevil being such a huge hit earlier this year, it’s no stretch that there could be some major announcements concerning Marvel’s television shows, particularly in the Netflix universe. We recently learned that Jon Bernthal will be playing the Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil, it would be great to hear more about that (maybe a first image of him as Frank Castle?). News about other rumored characters like Ghost Rider, Blade, and Moon Knight would certainly blow fans’ minds. Perhaps we could get some hints about the Defenders, and what comes after in Phase 2 of the MNU (Marvel Netflix Universe)? Even more likely is some Iron Fist casting news, the last Defender that needs to be cast. Whatever they reveal, it is sure to get fans hyped!
The CWDCU: We will most likely be getting news about season 4 of Arrow, season 2 of the Flash, and season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow. Since every season of a CW DC show seems to introduce a new superhero for a potential spin-off (Arrow S2 had Barry Allen, S3 had the Atom, and Flash S1 had Firestorm), some hints on what heroes (if any) that will appear would be very interesting. Maybe Green Lantern in the Flash? Could we possibly see Hawkman in Arrow (Hawkgirl will be appearing in Legends of Tomorrrow)?
Anything Star Wars: Let’s be honest, it’s Star Wars. A blurry picture of an extra’s boot is a big deal. Imagine the explosive response that a new Episode VII trailer, Rogue One footage, or more reveals of upcoming films would create. Reveals of more Anthology films (Darth Vader, Yoda), news on any of the known films, or news on that Obi-Wan trilogy will be a huge deal.
Fox MCU: We all know that Fox is planning on building a universe around their X-Men and Fantastic Four properties. They haven't officially said this, but why wouldn't they? They are most likely going to showcase Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, and possibly Gambit. It would be great to see trailers for Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, and maybe a plot synopsis of Gambit, with possibly a first look at Channing Tatum as the superhero and a confirmation of the director. However, it would also be exciting if they had some solid news on Wolverine 3, and an announcement of an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover. The Fox MCU certainly has a lot of potential, and some cool Comic-Con announcements would certainly get fans hyped for it!
Anything Horror Related: There are plenty of different horror projects that have been in development for years now. A second Friday the 13th reboot is due out next year, Halloween Returns is said to begin shooting this summer, and a Leatherface prequel is in pre-production. Universal Studios has announced plans for a cinematic universe with their classic monsters. It got off to a shaky start with last year's Dracula Untold, some exciting Comic Con announcements could show Universal's confidence in the idea, and give people faith in this brand new cinematic universe. Many Stephen King projects are in various stages of development, like an It remake, another adaptation of the Stand, and a series of Dark Tower films have all been talked about for years. Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat), is working on another holiday themed horror film, Krampus, and will begin to work on Trick ‘r Treat 2 after that. Horror fans have been waiting for a long time for news on any of these projects, and any sort of news about movements on these films would be long overdue.
Pacific Rim 2/Hellboy III: Guillermo Del Toro will be releasing Crimson Peak later this year, so he will likely be at San Diego this year, promoting that film. With Pacific Rim 2 set for release in early 2017, I would hazard a guess that we will hear something about that film, too. However, with Ron Perlman pushing for Hellboy III lately, it’s not completely unlikely that he will talk about that project, too.
Green Lantern Casting: The last of the Justice League members that needs to be cast, we still don’t even know which version of the character they will be using. It seems equally likely that the Emerald Knight will be Hal Jordan or Jon Stewart in the Justice League movies, and 2020 reboot. Announcing the actor would not only let us know who the final member of the Justice League will be, it would also let us know which version of Green Lantern Warner Brothers plans to go with.
DCCU: This will most likely be the biggest news to come out of Comic Con. We know next to nothing about the DC Cinematic Universe, and any kind of clarity that comes out of this Con will be huge news. Some title reveals, plot synopsis, and casting news would be huge news to diehard fans who have been waiting years for a DC film universe to come to fruition. Some first looks at characters (Cyborg or the Flash), a full trailer for Batman v Superman (with possible first looks at Wonder Woman and Aquaman), a teaser trailer for Suicide Squad (we could hear Jared Leto’s Joker voice for the first time), and, dare I say it, a first look at the Justice League standing together would be reveals that would blow fans minds.
