As tickets go on sale nationwide, Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Studios have shared an extended five-minute clip from Ridley Scott's upcoming historical action thriller The Last Duel, which hits theaters on October 15.

The clip offers a sneak preview of knight Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and his former best friend/squire Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) getting ready for the film's eponymous final battle, and we even get a shot of the fight's first blow. Plus, we're also introduced to Marguerite de Thibouville (Jodie Comer), who sets the events of the film in motion when she accuses Le Gris of rape.

This results in Jean challenging Jacques to trial by combat, and their battle would turn out to be the last legally sanctioned duel in the entire history of France.

The critically acclaimed drama stars Academy Award-winner Matt Damon (Jason BourneThe Martian) as Jean de Carrouges, 2x Academy Award-nominee Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerLogan Lucky) as Jacques Le Gris, Primetime Emmy-nominee Jodie Comer (Killing Eve; Free Guy) as Marguerite de Carrouges, and 2x Academy Award-winner Ben Affleck (Zack Snyder's Justice LeagueThe Way Back) as Count Pierre d'Alençon.

In addition to starring, Damon and Affleck co-wrote the screenplay with Academy Award-nominee Nicole Holofcener. The Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting duo penned the male perspectives while the Can You Ever Forgive Me? scribe penned the female perspective.

Check out the extended clip and a new TV spot below:

“The Last Duel” is a gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance set against the brutality of 14th century France. A cinematic and thought-provoking drama set in the midst of the Hundred Years War, the film explores the ubiquitous power of men, the frailty of justice, and the strength and courage of one woman willing to stand alone in the service of truth. Based on actual events, the film unravels long-held assumptions about France’s last sanctioned duel between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends turned bitter rivals.

@Cap1 - yep, just another generic Scott medieval movie. My point

@ThorArms - this’ll be his third, so not exactly an extensive list. Having u got any reasons for calling it generic? Or is that simply because it’s medieval? Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood are vastly dissimilar

I like that Scott is making a film about dueling in his later career after starting it off with a film about dueling.

I remember watching something on the actual story years ago.

Knowing how the actual duel went down and how it ended, the matter of the duel and whether the guilty was ever really guilty are still up for debate.

OT:

That What If... finale... yikes. Not remotely excited for a season 2. After a powerhouse previous episode, this finale was SO bad.

The first 10 mins I almost turned it off, it was very very bad. I literally picked up my controller at that pub and had to talk myself out of turning it off. The quality of everything dipped really hard the beginning of this episode. I'd say the first 10 mins are the worst of the series. That writing.... it was really bad. Even the animation looked off, shotty.

2nd quarter of the episode got better when the action picked up after the exposition dump. But even the action looked boring.

Wasn't till the final quarter of the episode when they got to Natasha's apocalypse universe the action and animation and writing good good.

But even the wrap up to tje season felt bad.

This finale was super rushed, you can tell they didn't have the time to finish this show properly because we didn't even get the Gamora episode... the pacing was so rushed nothing landed.

I understand Covid set them back and made them change their gameplan, but honestly they should have just pushed this show out and made sure it was finished.

This show had 2 great episodes, 2 good episodes and the rest wasted my time and this shows potential.

Another 'step down and get out of the way,' movie, based on the dialogue and the description. You either get it, or you don't.
