Entertainment Weekly (via ActioNewz.com) has begun pulling back the curtain on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, revealing a new gallery of stills offering an exciting first look at many of the movie's lead stars. Among them are franchise newcomer Hayley Atwell and fellow MCU star Pom Klementieff, with the latter now confirmed as one of the sequel's antagonists.

Talking to the site, director Christopher McQuarrie shed new light on the latter's relationship with Esai Morales' (who replaced Nicholas Hoult) mysterious big bad. "She is somebody who, at the start of our story, is partnered with Esai and represents this malevolent force that Ethan is opposed to," the filmmaker teases.

The director, who also co-wrote Top Gun: Maverick, would go on to admit that he's ready to take a breather after an intense few years that would make even Ethan Hunt proud.

"This has been the most unbelievable adventure and the most unbelievable continuum between, in some state or another, working on Top Gun, Mission 7, and Mission 8, all simultaneously," McQuarrie says.

"Top Gun is now behind us, and we're in a place where Mission 7 is almost out in theaters, and it's so surreal to think that, in July, I will be working [on] one movie at a time. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself!"

The seventh chapter in this iconic Mission franchise and the third directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Dead Reckoning Part One stars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, and Frederick Schmidt. Newcomers include Atwell, Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is set to be released in theaters on July 14, 2023. Paramount Pictures previously announced that Dead Reckoning Part Two will follow on June 28, 2024.

@mountainman - definitely the same for me. Can’t wait to see Haley Atwell in this too. She’s a stunner.

@mountainman - same here. Maybe even number 1 for me, closely followed by Guardians and Indiana Jones

@bkmeijer1 - Dune 2 is my #1 and MI7 is my #2. 3 is tougher to pick but I’ll just say GOTG3 to keep it easy.

@mountainman - I wasn't that big of a fan of Dune to be honest. The scale was pretty epic, but the story really took a dive in the second half imo. Look forward more to Oppenheimer tbh

@bkmeijer1 - The problem with Dune is that it was an original story when the book came out, but now it seems cliche because so many other properties have been inspired by it.

The second part of the book has a lot more action, although still somewhat of a cliche story.

If they adapt books 2,3 and 4, that is where the really interesting stuff comes up.

Oppenheimer looks good too. It’s been a while since I absolutely loved a Nolan movie, but this one looks great.

@mountainman - it wasn't even familiarity of the story. Just kinda bothered me there wasn't really much going on anymore after the assault on the compound.

Think it really could've helped if it had a villain constantly hunting Paul and co. instead of some random guy showing up at the end and challenging him to a fight.

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah the weird thing is the book has a villain like that. Yeah I think they would have had to change up the book story to do it. It was pretty faithful.

I just think back in the 60’s when it was written it was a more original story. But I will say this, a lot more should happen in Part 2. And you will get your enemy of Paul in it, played by Austin Butler.

To me part 1 was good because of the cinematography, music and world it set up. But I get that it was a slow sci fi movie.

@mountainman - it did indeed do a good job setting up the world, so I am intrigued to see more of that. And Austin Butler is an interesting addition

I can't wait. The last 3 MI movies are GREAT!

I love how they have clamped down on everyone & no spoilers have popped loose yet.

And I love Hayley Atwell as much as I'm sure she loves me.

@DocSpock - i didnt even think about that; that no spoilers have made it online. Shocking in this day and age... also, agreed. the last 3 MI have been phenomenal, each one getting better and better

My most anticipated movie this year and it's not close. EASILY the BEST action franchise going, and probably the last decade or more. I can't believe how good these have gotten since MI 4. God please cruise you crazy bastard

The Mission Impossible series has always attracted great actors. I like that they are bringing people back from the earlier films. But wow the new cast is great too!

Haley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes.

Geez this is stacked. Combine that with Rogue Nation and Fallout being the best in the series, I am 100% ready for another McQ directed MI movie.

That motorcycle off the clip stunt they’ve already showed off was crazy as hell. And I’m sure we are in for some more amazing set pieces, especially after how crazy the finale sequence in Fallout was.
