Breaking news out of Paramount Pictures tonight, as they've just officially announced the release dates for a number of their upcoming films, including Tom Cruise's next impossible mission.
The Chris McQuarrie-directed Mission: Impossible 6 will arrive in theaters on July 27, 2018, which is coincidentally the same weekend the previous installment, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, made its critically acclaimed debut back in 2015. The film ultimately grossed over $682 million worldwide, so there are high hopes for the upcoming sequel.
On a related note, the date is already slated for an untitled DC Film (heavily rumored to be Aquaman) from Warner Bros., but it's now increasingly likely that one of the two films will ultimately shift dates and with production on The Flash at a bit of a crossroads at the moment, there is always a possibility that the James Wan-directed sea adventure now moves up to fill the gap.
Production on M:I 6 is expected to kick off Spring 2017 with Cruise back as Ethan Hunt and Rogue Nation breakout Rebecca Ferguson expected to return as Ilsa Faust. No word yet on the rest of the cast, but it's more likely than not that Hunt's elite IMF team will consist of some combination of Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Paula Patton, Maggie Q, and/or Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In addition to helming the feature, McQuarrie also penned the script.
Paramount also dated the Matt Damon-starrer Downsizing for December 22, 2017, and an untitled event film for November 2, 2018. Could this date be for a Transformers-universe film?
