AQUAMAN & THE LOST KINGDOM Director James Wan Marks Last Day Of Filming With New BTS Photo

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has now officially wrapped production, and director James Wan has taken to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes photo of stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan has announced that production on the upcoming sequel has officially wrapped, and shared a new behind-the-scenes photo to mark the last day of filming.

The snap sees Wan having some fun with stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, who are not in-costume (at least, not their superhero duds) as Aquaman and enemy turned ally(?) Orm, aka Ocean Master. These two were on opposing sides in the first movie, but there's a lot of speculation that Orm will end up joining his half-brother to combat a larger threat to Atlantis in The Lost Kingdom.

And finally, finally, finally picture wrap on the actual last day of #Aquaman2 in Malibu with these two gents @prideofgypsies @thereelpatrickwilson," Wan captioned the post. "Yes, we do get very wet, a lot, on this show. A THOUSAND THANK YOUs to all the incredible crew who worked so hard and tirelessly on this picture...

I have a very long way to go before it will be ready, but I can't wait to share this little film with you all."

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but it's assumed that a vengeful Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will be the main villain this time. There's also a good chance that The Trench will feature more prominently, given Wan's fondness for the deep-sea terrors.

The director recently suggested that he'd be returning to his horror roots for Aquaman 2, drawing influence from, of all things, campy '60s Italian horror film Planet of the Vampires.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to swim into theaters on December 16, 2022.
