Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was one of the many upcoming DC Comics projects spotlighted during last night's DC FanDome event, with a behind-the-scenes video giving us a better idea of what to expect from James Wan's sequel.

The footage featured glimpses of main characters Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), Mera (Amber Heard), and some colorful creatures, but arguably the biggest talking point proved to be Black Manta's (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) updated costume.

The villain's outfit was pretty comic-accurate in the first film, anyway, but with a few tweaks, it's even more impressive to behold. Now, Wan has taken to Instagram to share some new photos of Mateen II suited-up as Black Manta.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but it's assumed that the vengeful Manta will be the main villain this time. Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) will be back in action, too, but he might well be fighting alongside his half-brother. There's also a good chance that The Trench will feature more prominently, given Wan's fondness for the deep-sea terrors.

The director recently suggested that he'd be returning to his horror roots for Aquaman 2, drawing influence from, of all things, campy '60s Italian horror film Planet of the Vampires.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to swim into theaters on December 16, 2022.
