ComicsContinuum.com has learned that Jim Krieg, whose previous work include Batman: The Brave and the Bold, The Super Hero Squad Show and Fox's Spider-Man and X-Men series, is the newly appointed story editor for Warner Bros. Animation's upcoming Green Lantern animated series.

The Green Lantern series will be the first computer-generated, animated series featuring DC Universe comics characters. The story will focus on Hal Jordan, Kilowog (his Corps drill instructor) and an yet to be named Red Lantern. The Red Lanterns are a savage parallel to the Green Lantern. The Red Lantern Corps is fueled by the light of rage, and its ring-wielders roam the galaxy seeking violent retribution and death.

The series will not be considered canon for the live-action movie franchise.

Is part of this missing? I see the part "The story will focus on Hal Jordan, Kilowog (his drill instructor) and an yet to be named Red Lantern. The Red Lanterns" Shouldn't there be something more after "The Red Lanterns"?

As for the idea of this series not following the movie, it makes far more sense for the series to follow the canon from the comics. The ultimate goal of a good animated superhero series is to develop interest among new readers for the comic. Following the comics will hook new readers, who will want to pick up the books and some TPB's and learn more about the characters.

Jim Krieg has a good track record imo, so the stories for this should be good. Add this to the things I'm looking forward to next year!

@Anil
Well it is a Lantern story so I guess they may tone it down a bit and maybe include most of the known DC characters. As long as they bring the gritty element BN had then I'll be satisfied.

Awesome! GL books are one of the greatest ever.
List of some books to read:
GL Secret Origin
GL No Fear
GL Emerald Dawn
GL Rebirth

@Kalel:
The key stuff would be Emerald Twilight (since that's where it all goes down), Zero Hour (which is when he tries to reset time. FYI, it's kind of a tough read), and Final Night (which is where he sort of redeems himself). Those should give you the basics of what went down while Hal was Parallax.

@Kalel Glad you saw the light!! Pun intended. ;P
BTW if you want to go one step further and follow Hal's path between Final Night and Rebirth you can read "Day of Judgement" which has never been collected in TPB form but Day of Judgment is the DC event where Hal becomes the Spectre. Just hit a comic shop and pick up the individual issues. I think it was a 5 or 6 issue mini-series. It's also one of Geoff Johns first big writing gigs with DC.

@Kalel Yeah, I was there and saw it. Wasn't much to see as there wasn't much finished footage to show yet. Lots of quick cuts but the shot of the construct was badass as well as the VERY brief glimpse of Oa! What was there was great but it definitely left you wanting much more!

Kalel, I think most people who didn't like the casting are coming around to the idea. There's only a small minority who still don't like him. And I think most of the people who didn't like him as Hal because 1. They wanted him for other roles, 2. They only knew him from movies like Van Wilder or 3. They're moronic Joss Whedon fans who think Nathan Fillion should play every super hero known to man.
Ryan is gonna knock it out of the park!

I've not got as far as any of the Red Lantern/Blackest Night stuff yet (only about 10 issues in to the series even though I've got all the grahic novels leading up to the current issues) so I have no idea who they are! Regardless, I'm looking forward to this series. :)
