BOX OFFICE: ANT-MAN Stomps On The Competition In The UK With $6.2 Million Haul

Ant-Man ended up earning a solid $57.2 million in North America this past weekend, and Marvel's Phase 2 finale has gotten off to similarly strong start in the United Kingdom. Hit the jump for details on that and all the latest on how well the movie is performing...

Minions has been at the top of the UK box office for three weeks now, but Ant-Man finally dethroned the animated feature this past weekend with $6.2 million. That may not sound like a lot (especially when compared to how the movie fared in North America), but it's a higher debut than both Captain America: The First Avenger ($4.6 million) and The Incredible Hulk ($5.1 million).

Inside Out and Southpaw open in the UK this Friday which could pose a problem for Ant-Man, but it's now the school holidays, so parents have had the entire week to take their kids to see the latest Marvel release. It's performing well everywhere, so here's hoping we get news on a sequel in the near future! Be sure to check out my review of the movie by clicking here. Have you seen it?

I dunno why, but reading the headline to this article made me genuinely happy. I haven't even seen the movie.

Guess I'm just rooting for the REAL underdog of Phase 2 to perform well.

This movie needed more promotion honestly. I've already seen it twice and I wouldn't mind going to see it again. Really good film.

"Inside Out and Southpaw open in the UK this Friday which could pose a problem for Ant-Man,"

Bye bye Antman...

These numbers are very poor, only $1 million more than Incredible Hulk? Lol, Incredible Hulk was a big flop.

I'll eventually see this but I'm in no rush to see it. I saw Terminator instead on Saturday.

Arnold movies are my guilty pleasure. Commando is probably my fave.

When did Ward say he was going after the Yellowjacket suit? I've seen people bring it up, don't recall catching it myself.

How in any way are these numbers poor? If it was closing weekend yeah it's abysmal, but for a competitive summer season it's doing pretty damn well.

It was always a very risky movie to make. To the general audience Ant-Man is someone they've never heard of, but risks need to be taken in order to widen and prolong the MCU. DC's turn will come when they have to bring out Cyborg or Hawkman and they'll probably pull in the same $$$

I know, this is even worse, a Disney movie helping to destroy another Disney movie, what?

@Kurne

I think people are saying that because of something in AoS (I don't want to spoil anything for you since I don't know if you watched the last season or not).

Holy crap, Grant Ward in the Yellowjacket suit? Wouldn't THAT be epic!!!

I am STILL waiting for the moment Tony Stark turns a corner and walks right into Phil Coulson. THAT would be epic, as well.

I enjoyed the film, I don't think it's as "amazing" as people make out, but I had a fun time

sickboy76 - 7/21/2015, 6:48 AM
Certainly marvel are happy with it other wise they wouldn't be including Paul Rudd in civil war and Evangeline Lilley somewhere down the line. Let's see how many people go see any of the DC films without batman in it and then we'll talk.

Even though I know saying this doesn't really help:

SPOILERS

@GliderMan

I may have missed it, but does it explain in the movie how Cross knows about the Avengers facility heist? He talks about how word travels fast, I'm guessing Hydra, but Falcon wanted to keep the altercation between him and Lang on the down low.... I was just wondering
