Martin Donovan Joins The Cast Of Marvel's ANT-MAN In "Pivotal" Role

Filming may be well underway, but the cast of Peyton Reed's Ant-Man continues to grow (geddit?) as Martin Donovan - best known for roles in Homeland and Weeds - has joined the movie in what is being described as a "pivotal role". Hit the jump for details!

Even if the name isn't familiar, Martin Donovan's face should definitely ring a bell as the veteran TV actor has appeared in everything from Boss to Hannibal (along with the shows mentioned above). The next project for the actor is a lot bigger though as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that he's joined the cast of Ant-Man

Who is he playing? Unfortunately, the site don't know, but sources tell the site that
Donovan is "pivotal" to the story, so it could be that he's playing a well-known character from the comic books Marvel want to keep secret.

Starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Ant-Man centers on con man Scott Lang, who has the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength. He must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his Ant-Man suit from a new generation of world-ruining threats. The movie is set to be released on July 17th, 2015. What do you guys think about this latest addition to the cast? Sound off below!

They could bring in Brad Pitt and Angelina to have a hardcore, full frontal, vulgar, sex-scene that lasts 30 minutes and I would still not buy a ticket to this garbage film.

Loved him on Weeds. He was great. Should be a good addition. The cast for Ant-Man is literally the only thing keeping me interested. That, and the removal of Edgar Wright.

@McGee
The truth is male models have been assassinating world leaders for over 200 years. Abe Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery, right? Well, who do you think made the silk stockings and powdered wigs worn by our early leaders? Slaves, McGee. So they hired John Wilkes Booth to do Mr. Lincoln in. The first model/actor! Dallas. 1963. John F. Kennedy.

@Doopie
I thought if was one of Doop's best, couldn't stop laughing. I had wrote a sketch a while back based around the Iron Man 2 production, part of it had Jon Favreau writing with Mickey Rourke passing the time. Unfortunately, Doop beat me to the punch.
Great minds think alike I guess.

@MercwithMouth- Because Peyton Reed is a better director than Edgar Wright. That's why none of Reed's films are memorable.

@m0th3r

Nah, not a fan. Not big on Britsh comedy, other than Mrs. Brown's Boys.

@CaptainObvious

2 things:

1. Never said that Wright was a bad director or that Peyton Reed is a better director.

2. All the complaints about the Ant-Man movie, like old man Pym, Hank and Janet not being included in Avengers, Lang being the real Ant-Man... All of those things were Edgar Wright and Cornish. So, if Wright was the one that [frick]ed it up so bad, and then kept delaying and delaying, and apparently couldn't meet Marvel deadlines...Why in the hell should they have kept him around?

Ya know the weird thing is that once I heard about this guy joining ant man I was thinking young hank pym buy he's 57 or so,then again he could be playing Darren cross(the role Patrick wilson had before he left).Although Patrick would've made a good young pym

If those things are so bad, why isn't Marvel changing them? I'm pretty sure Marvel also kept pushing Ant-Man back because Ant-Man was conceived in the early days of the MCU and probably didn't know exactly where it would fit. And who cares if kept getting delayed? As long as was good (which under Wright's direction, we know it would be), they could have spent much time as they wanted trying to get it right.

I would rather have a good movie that takes its time than a passable movie that's rushed.

The funny thing is whenever other studios throw away talented writers and directors, everybody agrees they made a terrible mistake. But when Marvel does it, it's swept under the rug. Why? Because they're Marvel?
