UPDATE: Adam McKay Enters Talks To Helm ANT-MAN

It appears we have some conflicting reports of who is actually in final talks with Marvel Studios to fill the void left by Edgar Wright and helm their long-gestating Ant-Man movie. Check it out for details!

Earlier this morning, three comedy directors—Adam McKay, Ruben Fleischer, and Rawson Marshall Thurber—were reported as potential contenders to helm Marvel's forthcoming Ant-Man movie, following Edgar Wright's unexpected exit last week. Though The Wrap has since declared Thurber (We're the Millers) a front-runner to direct the 2015 Marvel adaptation, Ain't It Cool News now reports that it is The Other Guys director Adam McKay who is in final talks with the studio. "Marvel made the offer this afternoon, and both sides are expected to work out a deal," claims the site. Given that both sources are considerably credible, we won't know for sure which director is actually the front-runner until we hear "shortly" from the horse's mouth, or Marvel's. However, should Adam McKay nab the Ant-Man gig, it would re-team him with Anchorman actor Paul Rudd. In addition to The Legend of Ron Burgundy and its 2013 sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, McKay's directing credits include the hilarious Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. The frequent Will Ferrell-collaborator also penned those action/comedies.

UPDATE: After acknowleding that Rawson Marshall Thurber was previously "believed" to be the front-runner to direct Ant-Man, both The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter now confirm Ain't It Cool News' scoop that Adam McKay is Marvel's guy and has been all along. "Sources now indicate that McKay is eager to take on the challenge of replacing fanboy favorite Wright," they report, "and would likely accept the job should Marvel tender an official offer." What do you think?

Anyhow, with Marvel announcing a director soon, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson, and will release July 17, 2015.

"Be grateful we're getting these films."

So you're saying we should just accept whatever is thrown at us even if it's bad?

The reason people are worried about the comedy is because Marvel has a tendency to go overboard with the humor so much it weakens the weight of the drama.

Honestly, I don't mind if McKay gets the gig. Plus, he's worked with Rudd before.

I mean, Fleischer is the newbie out of this bunch, but I'd take him over McKay and Thurber.

I used this .gif before and I'll use it again.

Although I do like the fact that he's worked with Rudd before.

Kurne-no he wanted a political thriller

jesus christ, ok ,calm down, everybody, its not like dgar wright was gonna make this really serious, dark ant man film... no, as he said in interviews.. he wanted it to be a sci fi action adventure film with a comedic element..so it could still be the same thing..mckay did action well in the other guys so yeah..and lets wait to watch the film or trailers before we say marvel is sacrificing the drama of the film for humor, shall we,please

Makes sense for him to be in charge of an MCU film . . . McKay always doing cameos and such . . .

I don't think the humor in the Marvel films is all that bad. Sure, it ain't perfect (and there have been a few instances where it was used a bit too much), but I don't find it to be anywhere near as bad as a lot of users here make it out to be.

I think we can all agree on one thing, though. Marvel's humor is WAY better than the humor in the Transformers movies. God, I face-palmed so hard at the humor in those films.

;___________;

Eight years of anticipating Edgar Wright doing this movie, watching his filmography expand and seeing his talents as a director grow, getting more excited with each piece of information released and every new film he made. It all culminates in this. This is the darkest future.

Please MARVEL, Don't Do This! Get Edgar back or atleast get someone better like Ruben Fleischer.

@HurricaneXavier Couldn't have said it better myself. I mean, I'm also disappointed about Wright leaving, but I've gotten over it. Some people here are taking this whole thing way too seriously

rockerdude-exactly,i hate the tranformers films, the human characters are so annoying.. the humor is just dogs humping, racist robots and masturbation jokes and i did think the humor in iron man 3 went alittle overboard with maybe two scenes and the whole darcy and the other humans track wasnt funny and if u actually take that part out... there isnt much humor in the film...anyway the marvel films sense of humor appeals to me

also can we not diss this before we see a trailer or anything...i know we are hurt over wright leaving and its very sad that it happened but we have to move on.. no one and i mean NO ONE thought the the russo bros could do it and they ended up giving us the best mcu film to date imo and i know some people will say because they worked on it from the beginning and some will compare this to matthew vaughn leaving last stand and ratner taking over but u have to understand..marvel has much more of their shit together imo then fox did then so lets wait and see shall we..it could be a disaster or could be a pleasant surprise..hopefully its the latter and we get a good film

Yuuussss! Another comedy from marvel. I cannot wait! We haven't had enough of those!

I seriously hope this isn't going down the Iron Man 3 route where it's interesting up until the twist and then it turns in to a terrible comedy movie. Sure humour isn't bad but when it is fed to you every second of a movie it gets annoying. Hopefully they'll tone it down like they did in cap 2.

Transformers humour is too edgy and inappropriate. Bay doesn't understand humour nor does he understand transformers. He should step away from both.

also for people who think wright approached marvel to do this..not the case.. back in 03, wright wrote a script for ant man for a company called artisan who had rights to marvels lesser known properties and he wrote a script for them but it didnt work out and in 06, he was approached by marvel as confirmed by wright in an interview and they asked if he was interested in any marvel titles and he said he had written an ant man script a while ago and they didnt know he had written one so he apprached by marvel, he didnt go to them, so it was sort of a hired gun thing

I once saw a comment someone posted saying that the humor in the Marvel films was like Giligan's Island. I mean, really? IMO That's stretching it way too far

He does have the experience with Rudd, and he does have alot of comedic background, plus if you look at The Other Guys, the action is pretty good. I like him. I prefer Wright, but Mckay is alright in my book, welcome to the MCU!
