Very little has been revealed about what we should expect from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, though footage shown during CinemaCon suggested the new King of Atlantis will reluctantly join forces with his brother, Orm, to defeat Black Manta's army. However, there could be a lot more to James Wan's upcoming sequel than just that team-up.
According to The Direct, the blockbuster is set to introduce Arthur Curry and Mera's son!
We don't have any further details, but the site claims that the young character will be pivotal to the plot. Aquaman and Mera could have quite easily had a child since the events of 2018's Aquaman, but we also wouldn't be surprised if this addition to the Atlantean family comes as a result of The Flash rewriting reality and creating a new DC Extended Universe.
The big question is whether Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will follow the comic books. In those, Arthur Curry Jr. is revealed to have a combination of his parents' powers, but in the pages of Aquaman: Death of a Prince, Black Manta suffocates the child to death.
That would certainly make things even more personal between the two rivals in this movie, but it's also a little dark for a PG-13 blockbuster. Given the ongoing negativity surrounding actress Amber Heard, it may be more likely that Mera is the one who is killed by Black Manta, setting Aquaman on a hunt for revenge alongside his villainous half-brother.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on March 17, 2023.
