Another Villain For The Avengers Revealed!

With a spoiler warning, recent reports may have revealed another villain alongside the God Of Mischief Loki, which was alluded to at last year's San Diego Comic-Con. Check it out!

Ever since production commenced for Marvel & Joss Whedon's crown jewel The Avengers, many had been at wonder of what big threat would assemble earth's mightiest heroes. And with the God of Mischief Loki confirmed, while the extraterrestrial Skrulls have yet to be debunked, it seems theres another big time foe for the superhero ensemble flick. And now the good folks over at Latino Review claims to know whothat may be.

According to very trusted always on point sources, Latinoreview has exclusively learned that the other villain in THE AVENGERS is……THANOS! Now I’m not going to spoil how he is in the movie, but trust me when we tell you that he is in there.

Thanos' first appearance debuted in the Bronze Age of comic books, and the character has featured in over three decades of Marvel continuity and a self-titled series. The character's name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology. One of his more prominent storylines to date—the Infinity Gauntlet series—portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel's multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe’s actual (and more powerful) embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love.

At last year's San Diego Comic-Con, the Infinity Gauntlet was displayed, which is knowingly the title weapon for the Mad Titan, Thanos. And it was said the prop would be first shown in Thor, in the all-father Odin's vault, although it was no where to be seen. But it was alos said that the weapon would set up other films' storylines, so it seems that will be in The Avengers. What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

Looks like it's gonna be hard to make a fist... :P Nah, but Avengers looks good. Tho I didn't think Thor was great, it was a pretty good movie, as was Iron Man. Really think Cap will be the better of the films

At SDCCC '10, In an interview with the folks who made the Gauntlet, they said...

All of the joints are operational, in case the studio plans on using animatronics to "wield" it for a future film

I'm okay with it as long as it's not some vague smokey ghost-like presence that contributes little to the actual story.

Thano's was always a major possibility but it always seemed like they would build up to him. Honestly how would they top him as the villain in the inevitable sequels? What f'ing story line is more epic than Infinity Gauntlet?!

As for casting -

Come on, now that he's got some time on his hands, and the world is kinda hatin on him right now - playing agruably the baddest Marvel villain could be the ultimate come back!

If he is "in" the movie, I'm going to guess that he is only referenced.

If I remember correctly, there was a rumor that the Skrulls are merely mentioned, only to be set to return in a sequel. Possibly Loki helps Thanos reclaim the Infinity Gauntlet and together they set out to retrieve the Cosmic Cube. Loki can't do it alone. As for a sequel, the Skrulls invade Earth after hearing word of the Cosmic Cube's location.

I think Thanos will make for an excellent villain. But after watching 'Thor', I'm not feeling it with Marvel anymore. Hopefully, they go all in on 'The Avengers'. Don't hold it back. With all this S.H.I.E.L.D. set up and Easter Eggs, we better get something EPIC!

My friend loves Joss Whedon. So, I'm going to stay positive. Thanos ripping through towns would be so totally sick though!

Isn't Thanos' mother actually a skrull. I remember reading a storyline where that was the case. I think it was the universe X storyline. In the regular universe however i think he's ugly from a deviant gene, but he could lead a skrull army if Marvel plays around with the material. As long as Thanos doesn't show up as a smoke man, use an old guy as a "vessel", and get knocked out by one punch, i think it's awesome

Damn...was kinda looking forward to a whole movie of Loki mind controlling Hulk. With several different battle scenes....oh well.

Hell, is Thanos enough for one movie??? I'd want sequels please as something like the "Infinity Gauntlet" saga ain't enough for a two-hour plus movie alone (if they ARE going through a Gauntlet storyline, that is).

While this seems like good news, I was kinda hoping it would only be Loki controlling the Hulk as the baddie in the first outing of the combined heroes... Thanos would probably be something like a foreshadowing for possible sequels.

I kinda doubt thanos will be in here. I mean as great of a villian he is, why would they just bring him out of nowhere without even mentioning him first or hinting at it.
ComicKnowledge
ComicKnowledge - 5/26/2011, 10:51 PM
If they do go with the Infinity Guantlet story line I think they should do it LOTR style and have three or so movies leading to a final epic battle.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 5/26/2011, 10:51 PM
The original HULK VS AVENGERS storyline probably wouldn't work at this point. Or at least it wouldn't work as the main story. I can see them having to stop or retrain the HULK at some point when the narrative deals with Banner not fitting in. But having the Avengers flying around fighting HULK for two hours sounds like a waste of resources and quick to get boring.

This is from Latino Review so take this news with a grain of salt. But I did say that it was awkward to see the Infinty Gaulnet showcased at Comic con along with Caps shield and Thors helment. Add Thanos and Loki and you have the best comicbook movie of all time.
