BOX OFFICE: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Hits More Milestones As It Nears $1.3 Billion

Tomorrowland took the #1 spot in North America this weekend, but that didn't stop Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron from passing the $400 million mark domestically! Hit the jump for details on that, and for all the latest numbers pertaining to Joss Whedon's superhero sequel...

With Tomorrowland, Pitch Perfect 2, and Mad Max: Fury Road all now in theaters, this weekend was pretty hectic at the North American box office. To keep things simple, we'll just focus on Avengers: Age of Ultron to begin with as that is the movie we all really care about, right?

The Marvel Studios sequel breezed past the $400 million mark at the domestic box office this weekend, and has also hit another milestone in China where it has so far grossed over $210 million. That gives Avengers: Age of Ultron, a current worldwide haul of an impressive $1.263 billion, making it the second highest grossing superhero movie of all-time behind only The Avengers

It's too soon to say whether it will end up surpassing the first movie, but analysts recently predicted that it could finish its run with around $1.6 billion. Stay tuned over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, the amazing Mad Max: Fury Road still hasn't earned enough to justify a sequel. Its $212 million worldwide haul is good, but with a budget of $150 million and tens of millions spent on promotion, it could be a while before we get any solid news on a follow-up. Brad Bird's disappointing Tomorrowland may have been #1 this weekend, but it's taken an underwhelming $32.2 million domestically, and even less than that internationally. Have you seen it?

Just got back from Fury Road a few minutes ago. That was an amazing movie, and that's something coming from someone that had no interest in seeing it. I liked it better than Age Of Ultron.

Age of Ultron kind of sums up all the problems I have with the MCU. To me it kind of felt like less of a standalone movie, and more of a setup film for Civil War and Infinity War. I'm just kind of tired of these movies being 2 hour advertisements for the NEXT [frick]in movie.

I don't see AoU hitting 1.6.

I see it hitting more like 1.4 or 1.5 tops. If I'm wrong that's cool as I enjoyed the film, I just do t see it.

Good for avengers. You say tomorrowland
Was disappointing? I've heard the exact opposite.
Wonder how much ant-man will make.
I'd say 800 million.

That $212 million is before and update on the international box office since Monday. It needs about $400 million to turn a profit, and with a solid hold this weekend, should do so.

Yeah, it'll make a little less than the first. The most I can say for it was that I was entertained. Okay movie.

What a failure of a movie -- sorry, I mean, that box office makes sense, considering AOU is a fun, action-packed addition to the MCU.

If you haven't gone out and seen Mad Max Fury Road yet, though, do so now! It's my favorite film of 2015 and deserves all the money.

Ant-Man will probably do $500-600 million worldwide which is profitable. We don't need any sequels. Use Ant-Man like you use Hawkeye or Widow.

It's probably not a good idea to wait 30 years inbetween sequels. I actually just watched the first three Mad Max movies though so I'll add to that total this week probably.

My 8-year old baby brother just saw Tomorrowland yesterday and he said it was no good. What kind of movie did you make Brad Bird that doesn't appeal to me at 31 and that an 8-year old doesn't like?

Is stupid so day that about Mad Max with only 10 days of release, nobody was expecting 1 billion for a r-rated movie, 400-450 worldwide should be great for it after all the troubled production and delays.
