Avengers: Age of Ultron opened yesterday with an impressive $84.4 million, a number just shy of the record for the highest opening day of all time which is held by Harry Potter and the Death Hallows Part II and its $91 million haul. Regardless, the sequel still topped the first instalment's $80.8 million, and depending on how today goes, it looks set to finish between the $200 million - $210 million mark. Whether it will top The Avengers' amazing $207.4 million remains to be seen, and the box office tends to be so unpredictable that it really could land anywhere right now.
Don't be surprised for it to potentially go even higher than that $210 million estimation. If it doesn't though, it's still an incredible result. An "A" CinemaScore from moviegoers will no doubt help, but the fact that a number of sporting events are taking place today could explain why it's taken a slight hit. This is only its first weekend though, and with weeks more to go - not to mention a forthcoming Chinese debut - there should be no stopping Avengers: Age of Ultron. With an additional $53 million internationally yesterday, it now has $340 million from overseas, and a worldwide cume of $425 million. How many times will YOU see the sequel this weekend?
