Thanos' Villainous Motivations In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Revealed - Mild SPOILERS Ahead

EW's  Avengers: Infinity War coverage continues with some mildly SPOILERIFIC new details on what motivates Thanos (Josh Brolin) to set out on his apocalyptic mission.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - EW Spotlights All 23 Main Characters Across 15 Awesome New Covers

In the comics, The Mad Titan vows to destroy all life in the universe to impress the personification of death, whom he has fallen in love with. However, it seems the villain's motivations will actually be a little less selfish (could they even be construed as noble?) for the purposes of this film.

Here's what Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige revealed to EW during their interview:

He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that,” Feige says. “What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life.”

To be fair to Thanos, in the comics he wants to put an end to all life in the universe, whereas here he's settling for half! “That’s either genius or horrific, depending on your point of view," continues Feige. "And most of our point of views say it’s pretty horrific.”

It's not a particularly drastic alteration to the character, but it is clearly designed to make his actions slightly more understandable.

What do you guys make of this new info? Would you have preferred if they stuck closer to the comics? Sound off below.

@Nebula - Not sure I like this approach. Seems like they're lightening him up a bit. He needs to be straight f@#$ing evil.

@RocknRolla - The best villains are understandable.

So he is motivated by death after all.. it's just literal death.

@Nebula - close enough? I hope we get a manifestation of death at least in his mind though.

@noahthegrand - She could be a manifestation of everyone who died, constantly reminding him.

@Nebula -Judging from the photo at the top of the article, it looks like Thanos just wants to moon everyone with the gauntlet. I tried that once but it looked like ass.

@Nebula - I don't believe Hela is dead... it will be interesting to see how she weaves into this if at all.

@JonC - PS: they clearly went out of their way to say she was the "goddess of death" when they could have simply made her Thor's sister and had the same effect.

@Nebula - Well he actually destroys Titan by himself and he couldn't prevent that because Death made him do that and had "forseen" it when he was born. That's one of Thanos origins in the comics, so I don't get it why people say this is shit or dump. Read a [frick]ng comic for once. And I don't mean you, just wanted to put this here.

@Poochie - It's called Thanos rising and here is a short description for that made by Marvel Studios.

"The vile face of Thanos left audiences in shock after last summer's Marvel Studios' "The Avengers" movie...but who is this eerily disturbing villain? Discover the hidden truth, as Thanos rises as the unrivaled rogue of wretchedness in this gripping tale of tragedy."

@Nebula - I have a feeling Hela is coming back. They'll combine her with Death. I have a feeling there are still a few surprises that we don't know about. Like Heimdall.

@Termin8er - Would you really count Heimdall as a thing we don't know about? I mean everyone and their grandmother knows the theory

@MrCamw1 - Except Killmonger fits that kind of motivation. Thanos does not.

Doesn't Thanos in the comics always lose because on some level deep down he doesn't want to win or something like that? I remember reading that somewhere but I can't for the life of me recall at the moment.
