Artemis Fowl hits Disney+ on Friday, and director Kenneth Branagh is doing the rounds to promote the film. Talking to ComicBook.com, the filmmaker was asked about his surprise voice cameo in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, and explained how him voicing an Asgardian ended up happening.

For those of you who missed it, the cameo came when Thor's ship was being attacked by Thanos's forces; Branagh's voice could be heard sending out a distress signal pleading for mercy.

"Well, the Russo Brothers, I've worked with a couple of times over the years," Branagh started. "I admire them very much, but also my experience of the Marvel thing is, it's a very family-orientated creative thing, so our regard as proper friends, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, all those people, and we keep in touch."

Despite the eight-year gap between Thor and Avengers: Infinity War, Branagh maintained a good relationship with Marvel Studios and happily obliged when he got the call.

"Louis just got on the phone and said, 'Hey, the boys would love you to do this, would you mind?' and I said, 'I'd be thrilled, I'd be thrilled! So, it was great and suddenly I was in my trailer for Artemis, yeah, for Artemis Fowl, I was shooting, and at the end of the day I got in the trailer and the Brothers were on the the other end of the digital airwaves," Branagh continued. "I twist them about the story, and got to do the lines a few times, and be directed by them, and it was fun."

"I keep up with Tom [Hiddleston] and Chris [Hemsworth], and you know, I feel very bonded to them. [Thor] was a special film for me, it was a special experience, it made a big, big difference at a big turn in my career that I'm very grateful for, still I'm very grateful for, so that whole part of my movie life is very special to me."

It was a cool moment, and one longtime fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe definitely appreciated.

If I’m reading this right, they either recorded him over the phone (no fx filter needed!) or had him send a digital file recording. Either way, a relatively low-tech way to get the very first audio you hear in the biggest movie of 2018.

@NoAssemblyReqd

Feel like people recording audio remotely is pretty common in the industry

@TheJustinHammer - A good mic, no background noise and a good compression for the file, yeah

His dialogue about the Asgardians under attack immediately set the tone for Infinity War and let you know how big the stakes were and how serious of a threat Thanos was.

I'm still sad he didn't direct Ragnarok. Thor is the best of that trilogy by a huge margin and I would have loved to have seen him return for the third.

@TheManWithoutFear - I'm not. Ragnarok was great.

I will always argue that the first Thor is underrated. Made me a fan of a character I did not like and didn't think fit in among the Marvel superheroes. But they made me get it. The score is also very beautiful.

Also, Kenneth Branagh is quietly really funny.

With him being the voice of a random Asgardian and Jon Favreau reprising Happy, it would have been cool if Russos could have given all of the Phase 1 directors cameos in Infinity War/Endgame and somehow connected said cameos with their respective movies. For example, Louis Leterrier could have been the father of the kids asking Hulk's autograph, Johnston could have been a random army guy walking past Cap in the 70's SHIELD base and Whedon could have been one of the SHIELD agents arresting 2012's Loki.

@FinnishDude - that would've been really cool. Wouldnt put it past them if they even tried that, but logistically it didnt work out

@Necropolitan - Oh man, Patrick Doyle's soundtrack for that first Thor is so beautiful. It gave me chills when they reprised it at the end of Ragnarok

It was a great way to start a great movie. Probably would say it might be the best in the MCU

The first 'Thor" did a fantastic job introducing us to Asgard and its inhabitants. Great performances by Hiddleston and Hopkins. If only those amazing characters had appeared in 'Ragnarok'.

A lot of directors have called movies within their franchises the "Empire Strikes Back" of said franchise and they never are. They just say it because ESB is a great sequel and they want people going "Ooooh I gotta see it now." Infinity War IS the Empire Strikes Back of the Avengers and it's glorious.

“This is the Asgardian refugee vessel Statesman... We are under assault, I repeat, we are under assault -
The engines are dead, life support failing...
Requesting aid from any vessel within range. We are 22 jump points out of Asgard.

Our crew is made up of Asgardian families, we have very few soldiers here!
This is not a warcraft. I repeat, this is not a warcraft!”
