It's already been four years since the last time we sat down to watch an Avengers movie in theaters, and we still have just shy of three years to go until the next time Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was recently pushed back to May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on May 7, 2027. The delay is primarily down to the WGA strike but Marvel Studios is also looking to take its time with upcoming projects, a stark contrast from Phase 4.
Very early pre-production is underway on both movies, of course, and The Cosmic Circus has unearthed working titles for both movies.
Those are said to be Apple Pie 1 (The Kang Dynasty) and Apple Pie 2 (Secret Wars).
This is similar to how Daredevil: Born Again was dubbed "Out the Kitchen," and it's something typically done to keep these projects under wraps and avoid lookie-loos showing up when cameras are rolling. Do these have a deeper meaning, though?
Well, the site suggests this is a nod to Carl Sagan, the space scientist who is known for his 1980s TV series, Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. He once said, "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe."
While we'd advise against reading too much into this, Kang created the Sacred Timeline and The Beyonder created a whole new reality in the pages of Secret Wars. With that in mind, you can probably understand why these working titles are relevant to the next Avengers movies.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is helming The Kang Dynasty from a script by Jeff Loveness (though we've since heard he was ousted from the project after Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania).
As for Secret Wars, all we know is Michael Waldron (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) is penning the screenplay.
