Chatting with the press for next week's release of Captain America: The First Avenger, the star Chris Evans further compared and contrasted his costume in the film with it's modern version in The Avengers. And ultimately praising his Avengers costar, 'Iron Man' actor Robert Downey Jr., read on what he had to say below!

“They each have pros and cons. This, the first Cap costume, is very cumbersome. It’s thick and it’s bulky, it’s tough to do fight sequences in, but the cowl, the helmet, can come on and off at will. The current wardrobe is a bit different. The suit, the range of motion is fantastic, you can really get some good fight sequences in. It’s a little bit more form-fitting. But the cowl, the hood, has some… changes that make it a little more difficult to get on and off.”

“He’s so great. I can’t say enough about him, I really can’t. I didn’t know what to expect going in to work with him. He’s so talented and he’s got so much charisma and persona. I can honestly say, of all the movie stars I’ve worked with, he’s the one that when he comes on set, you really feel like, ‘Man — this guy’s a movie star!’ You just feel it. When he comes in a room he just owns the oxygen. He is a movie star, and he’s been so great. So supportive, so positive. I had to do a scene with him the other day where I was just nervous, it was just me and him, and I was just terrified. It’s Robert Downey Jr.! And he’s just, you know, every little take he gives you a fist bump, a little thumbs up, and it just changes your whole day. It probably means nothing in his mind but I go back to my trailer, like, giddy. He really is something else.”

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki Laufeyson), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

The relationship between Cap and Tony should be interesting, since its pretty obvious that Cap knew his dad well.

I like to think of Civil War as Steve and Tonys divorce and them trying to battle for custody of spiderman. ;)

Widow@ That's gonna stick in my mind, whenever I think of Civil War, from now onwards.
CK1985@ Actually RDJ was making movies before Evans was in diapers. RDJ was in The Pound in 1970 and Evans was born in 1981!

@ClarkKent1985: Well, RDJ is only 16 years older than Evans, so I guess you can say that in a way. Lol

dont wanna sound rude or something...

but that's what happens to an actor with less drama experience and charisma.

Chris is a great guy..... but sadly he wasnt the best option to play Cap.

Just my opinion, of course. But definetly there are many actors out there with the talent, look and charisma to play Cap.

Marvel just went with one of the most famous actors from the young generation.

Yeh I was kind of worried since RDJ comes off as a bit stuck up and Evans is more laid back, but I'm not worried anymore :)

TheBlackWidow, "I like to think of Civil War as Steve and Tonys divorce and them trying to battle for custody of spiderman. ;)"

:) Then when Peter goes with Steve, Tony is like "Gimme the suit back. If you like Steve so much, then he can get you some new toys."

@ALmighty1080 they won't make him the main focus, but it's like Evans says, his charisma is incredible and he just steals the spotlight every time

sounds like Chris Evans should play a good Cap. He's modest and humble like Steve Rogers should be! Just like how RDJ embodies and thus owns Stark, Evans should be a fantastic Cap.

RDJ will own this film like hugh jackman did in x-men
it will be "avengers starring : iron man"

It better not come off on screen that way, since they're actors I expect them to embody the characters completely. Steve better seem like an old man compared to Tony, and the respect for his WWII triumph should be there when they interact... You know, when they're not beating each other's heads in.

In addition to what ClarkKen1985 said, Joss Whedon excels at developing strong characters in ensemble casts. Everyone will be just as important and feature equally in the film as Tony Stark.

RDJ is the type of guy you'd immediately fall in love with on set, so can't blame him at all.

Evans is so cute, he just has this boyish excitement that's so infectious.

Amy one working with RDJ would surely be enamored. He clearly is a very charismatic individual, if a bit manic. This is surely a sign of great intellect though. I would be quite awed in his presence.

Comicscommando, I disagree. Steve was frozen in ice since his mid-twenties, which means he has the life experience of a ~25 year-old by the time he is thawed from suspended animation. It isn't as though he spent those years pondering on the meaning of life etc. In life experience, despite Tony roughly 40's he has more life experience than Steve. This is in no way meant to discredit the wisdom Steve has, however, and I emphasize wisdom as it is entirely different from one's intelligence, which Stark clearly has the edge on.

EsseXFactor, what exactly is there to disagree with? Intelligence level is not what I meant at all, of course Tony Stark is going to be the most intelligent between the two. Wisdom is exactly what I meant, and Steve has a lot of it. More than Tony, and like I said earlier that should show in their interactions with each other. Cap's seen a lot of war and loss, he especially knows how to place himself before others and the value of true leadership, hard work, and dedication. Steve's also a legend and an old man in spirit, because he's very disconnected with the current times and feels alienated from the rest of the world.
ComicsCommando
ComicsCommando - 7/19/2011, 12:35 AM
Also, Tony's got the fault of pride. Steve is very humbled because of his upbringing, and he knows that it takes more than one man to save the day. Unlike Stark, who is referred to as the "One man army." Tony doesn't have wisdom because before he was Iron Man, he was living a very superficial lifestyle full of parties, women, and alcohol. Hell, he still does at times.
