Like many, I've spent the last year wondering who Loki's mysterious allies could possibly be. I have been, and probably will continue to guess, research, stab in the dark and generally, seek any Marvel Comic alien race that could, may or would fit with any of the news that has hit concerning their identity.
So far, I have at various times been somewhat/vaguely/kinda/fairly certain that it would be Ultron, Thanos, Kang, Annihilus, The High Evolutionary or maybe even Frosty the Snowman. Right now, to say nobody is sure, would be one of the most monumental understatements I can recall in recent memory. One of the bad boys mentioned above (or quite possibly someone else entirely) will grace the screen this May in cahoots with Loki (at this point Loki is the only thing we are sure of/maybe) with an invading alien force at their disposal.
As with the aforementioned cosmic bad boy, the alien race accompanying him/her/it, is pretty much up in the air/anybody's guess. We have virtually exhausted our brain cells running down the list of who's who of alien races in the Marvel Cosmic Universe. We have theorized The Skrulls, Kree, Chitauri, Baddoon, Dire Wraiths, Phalanx, Rigellians and even The Alpha Centaurians. Since it was hinted at during
The Avengers twitter event that the race may not even be aliens, we have even speculated that it could very well be The Knights of Wundagore or Atlanteans. A case could be made for any of the above races. We also have to consider the reports that the aliens are a compilation of several Marvel Universe races rolled into one. We have all heard about the strange new race reportedly created for the film called the Redacted. Ironically, the word redact means: to select or adapt (as by obscuring or removing sensitive information) for publication or release; broadly.)
So, to make a long story short, even after seeing them in the extended Super Bowl Commercial, we know almost nothing/nill/nada/zilch about the alien race used in the movie. What we do know about
The Avengers after watching last night's footage is as follows.
It really doesn't matter!
We got to feast our eyes on a Black Widow that is set to kill.
We saw Hawkeye throwing himself out of something very high with his usual Devil may care attitude, apparently guessing that something or someone may or may not break his fall on the way down.
We got a more than a satisfying dose of smart ass, defiant Tony Stark as well as balls to the wall, flying, blasting, Invincible
Iron Man.
It was fairly apparent from the footage that
Captain America is going to be anywhere and everywhere in this movie. From the exchange he has with Tony Stark, it also looks like he is going to be the determined leader we all know and love.
As per the comics,
THOR will be forcing his way head on into every obstacle the film can throw at him.
Loki is even more devious, arrogant, evil and determined than he was in
THOR.
Hulk is going to smash the shit out of everything!
Oh yeah! We got to see the team together, back to back, taking on an alien army (whoever they may be.)
It certainly seems like we are going to see
the Avengers we all know and love on screen, in all their
BADASSERY. At this point, could the aliens' race or the mysterious other villains' identity be a deal breaker for you? Could it being someone other than who you wanted really even be considered a disappointment? I would bet money whoever it is, Whedon will weave a great story and make them a perfect fit. So I ask you, while I'm sure you will continue your guesswork (as I know I will), does it really matter to anyone at this point who the yet to be revealed villain or aliens are?
I doesn't to me. I'm hooked!
