In an interview with MTV Splash Page, director Joss Whedon was asked whether he would return to helm a sequel to Marvel's The Avengers (a.k.a. Avengers Assemble) and managed to avoid giving a direct answer. Considering the movie has so far received almost unanimous praise, it's an extremely worrying thought to think he wouldn't choose to direct the planned follow up which is rumoured to be set for release in 2015. Whedon also once again teases what we might see on the DVD/Blu-ray.
"You know, it was an extraordinary experience. The actors gave me so much. Marvel gave me so much trust and the movie that I said, 'Well, if I was going to do this I'd like to do this.' And that's the movie I made. They only ever moved it forwards and collaborated and supported me. And I gotta tell you, that's unusual from a studio."
"There's a bunch of stuff that I loved on the DVD that absolutely needed to come out. I think you'll see why I loved them and why they needed to come out. spent some time with some of the ancillary characters because I thought we needed more of a human perspective. As it turned out people really just did want to see the Avengers."
[Maybe more S.H.I.E.L.D.?] "A little bit."
