With Warner Bros. developing multiple Superman projects without Henry Cavill, the future isn't exactly looking bright for the DCEU's original Man of Steel. If some reports are to be believed, the spotlight will be shifted to Sasha Calle's Supergirl over the next few years, and it's beginning to feel like the actor's tenure as Kal-El ended with Zack Snyder's Justice League.
With that in mind, is now the right time for Cavill to make the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Asked by The Hollywood Reporter which character he would want to play, the Superman actor responded: "I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job. However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain."
"That would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British."
It's hard to think of an actor better suited to playing Brian Braddock than Cavill, and with the introduction of the Multiverse, now feels like the perfect time to introduce the Captain Britain Corps. Tasked with protecting the Multiverse, a movie revolving around them and Brian could be a fantasy epic on the scale of nothing else we've seen in the MCU before now.
Ultimately, this is a decision that will be down to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Whether Captain Britain is a priority in Phase 4 and beyond is hard to say, though we are about to meet another British superhero in the form of Kit Harington's Dane Whitman/Black Knight, so why not?
