BATGIRL Movie Finds Directors In BAD BOYS FOR LIFE Duo Adil El Arbi And Bilall Fallah

Warner Bros.' long-gestating Batgirl movie is finally gaining some momentum, with Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah set to helm the DC Comics adaptation.

According to THR, the duo have closed their deal to direct the project, which is reportedly being developed as a HBO Max movie. There's no word on whether a theatrical release is also planned.

Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the most recent draft of the script.

"With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham,” said producer Kristin Burr. “Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool.”

Avengers director Joss Whedon was originally attached to Batgirl, but parted ways with the project back in 2018 after claiming that he failed to "crack the story." Adil and Bilall successfully revitalized the Bad Boys franchise with the highly profitable third installment, and also helmed episodes of the upcoming Disney+ Ms. Marvel series.

Why is Christina Hodson writing everything, goddammit...

This is interesting. Thought the film wasn't happening anymore.

@Kumkani - I'm just curious of it's continuity. I'm thinking it's what remains of the dceu, though that's gonna be disappointing since no batman to interact with her (Affleck is done after flash). Definitely too soon for her to be part of the reeves universe. And tying into the burtonverse would be weird.

@Origame - I believe the plan is that she makes her debut then she goes under more extensive training with Keaton's Batman.

@Battabing - yeah that's why I said burtonverse. It's just weird.

@Origame - I don't think it's the Burtonverse. I believe Keaton's Batman relocates to the current DCEU.

Not who I was expecting. BBFL was fun.

Wish they got someone other than Hodson to pen it.

So if this is in the DCEU and not the Reeves/Pattinson timeline, is there a chance we will see J.K. Simmons return as Gordon or maybe a Ben Affleck cameo? Also, if Keaton is indeed becoming the new DCEU Batman after The Flash, that basically retcons the Alicia Silverstone Batgirl.

@MovieMonster - I think both the non-Keaton movies are being retconned.
GwenLantern

@MovieMonster - There was a script leak. Apparently, The Flash ends with Flash creating the multiverse and travelling back to the DCEU where Batfleck sacrifices himself to save the world from Black Flash (the villain) and then Michael Keaton's Batman does indeed stick around as a mentor to Batgirl.

The fact that Hodson is writing both means it's probably true.

This is our Batman Beyond.
Keaton's Batman in the Snyderverse mentoring Barbara Gordon in the present day.

If you just threw up a little in your mouth, you're not alone.

@GwenLantern - Minus the fact its not reverse Flash as the villain, I don’t find anything too jarring about that.

Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman.

@Cbmfilmjunkie - yea I mean I’d rather it be reverse flash but besides that I’m here for it. Where is the Latino supergirl going to be from? Keaton s world and come over with him and the flash?
GwenLantern
GwenLantern - 5/20/2021, 12:54 AM
@Cbmfilmjunkie - Keaton's my favorite Batman, too. Wish they wouldn't waste him on this.

@GwenLantern - We have no idea what the movie is actually about, and if the above is actually true then it’s about execution.
I can almost guarantee the first time you see Keaton on screen again as Batman/Bruce it’ll get your excitement up.

Writer for Birds of Prey?

Well, whatever. Still interested to see this. Names that come to mind for me is Haley Lu Richardson or Peyton List.
