In The Heights star Leslie Grace will suit up as Barbara Gordon in the Batgirl movie coming to HBO Max, and the actress recently told Variety what led to her joining the DC Extended Universe.
It turns out that she was asked to jump on a last-minute Zoom for a final casting test before being told she should read the text in an email they sent her. "I open it and it says, 'I’m Batgirl'...and my brain broke," Grace recalled. "It was an incredible moment. When I mean incredible, I mean the textbook definition of, I could not believe it. My brain actually broke when I got the news."
While the actress couldn't reveal any specifics about the DC Comics movie, she did confirm that her first job after being cast was to take a deep dive into the source material. "That was my first question - what do I read? I’m like, 'Send me everything I need to learn.' I just bought every comic and just starting asking so many questions."
As for what fans can expect, Grace added: "I will tell you this, Batgirl is a badass. She’s definitely going to be fighting lots of people. She’ll be very hands-on. She’s got a lot to prove."
It's hard not to be excited reading these comments, especially as Grace's enthusiasm is clear to see. That's bound to translate to what we see on screen in a positive way, and even though Batgirl is heading to HBO Max, it sounds like there will be plenty of action for fans of this character to enjoy.
We're not expecting a first look at this one for a while, but do know that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl (written by Christina Hodson) for a 2022 release.
